Annlyel takes a retrospective look at J.J Abrams’ sequel to select her top five moments from a movie that would go on to relaunch the greatest space extravaganza ever created…
When Star Wars: The Force Awakens came out I was so excited and thankfully I had quite the reason to be. It turned out to be an amazing movie with plenty of fantastic scenes to stimulate the senses of every Star Wars fan. To pick five scenes from the film as my favorite is going to be very hard but I’ll give it a go.
5. Rey’s Vision
Before The Last Jedi downplayed a lot of The Force Awakens‘ greatest mysteries the scene featuring Rey’s vision was as riveting as they come. I remember seeing watching this scene over and over again to try to solve the hidden clues it seemingly was providing. Now it doesn’t hold the same magic but it still is one of my favorite moments in the film.
4. Rey Meets BB-8
I love this scene so much. There’s a beautiful simplicity to it that has filled my heart with joy since the first time I watched it. Seeing Rey sitting outside her AT-AT with the backdrop of the setting sun is a beautiful shot in the movie. And then Rey‘s first interaction with BB-8 is so heartwarming. This is a wonderful scene.
3. The Millennium Falcon Flies Again
Up until the Millennium Falcon appeared in the film the movie was already really good but to see the iconic ship with John Williams’ equally iconic music playing simultaneously puts chills up my spine every time. And then, to make this scene even better, the chase is easily one of the best spaceship action scenes ever created in the franchise. Rey flies the ship like she was born to pilot the vessel and with Finn’s impressive shooting skills this scene turns out to be an exhilarating experience.
2. Father and Son
While this may be one of the most difficult scenes in The Force Awakens to watch it’s undoubtedly one of the best-acted sequences in the franchise and definitely one of the most riveting.
1. Finding Luke Skywalker
Luke Skywalker is a legend by the events of The Force Awakens and the final scene in the movie makes it feel as such as John Williams delivers his best musical performance in Star Wars. The film was already phenomenal but that final scene was truly the icing on the cake.
Every time I watch The Force Awakens I think of Episode IX and I’m hoping J.J Abrams can bring the same magic he found with The Force Awakens to this Skywalker saga finale.
