After months of speculation, Warner Bros. has finally confirmed the former Twilight heartthrob as their new Dark Knight
According to a new report, the deal is done, the ink is dry, and Warner Bros. has got their man. Robert Pattinson will be slipping into the iconic cape and cowl for Matt Reeves’ hotly anticipated relaunch of the Dark Knight in The Batman.
The Caped Crusader’s relaunch is expected to begin filming this Autumn with a release date set for June 25th, 2021. The update comes from outlets like Deadline and Variety, both confirming that Warner Bros. made their call after whittling down the list to Pattinson and X-Men star Nicholas Hoult. The decision makers waited until they had seen both actors slip into the Batsuit before making the call.
The report goes on to say that though Hoult gave the powers that be food for thought, Pattinson was always the front runner and will now slip into the cape and cowl after negotiating what is expected to be a two-picture deal.
Rumours of his potential casting divided opinions amongst the devoted fanbase a few weeks ago and one would expect this news to continue to elicit a passionate response from Bat-fans. However, a similar outburst greeted Ben Affleck‘s casting as the Dark Knight for Batman vs Superman and despite a less than stellar performance in Justice League, his tenure will forever be regarded as a success story.
Moving forward, and The Batman is reportedly expected to begin filming in London this Autumn with Pattinson confirmed as the lead. For me, Robert Pattinson was a surprise candidate to become Batman, however, I had the same reservations about Batfleck and ended up loving his tenure in the cape and cowl. Despite not being sold on the idea, I will fully support his appointment and look forward to a brighter future with Batman back where he belongs…on the big screen.
Now, if we could only have him face-off against the Man-Bat…or maybe that’s too much to ask!
