Liam reveals his top five characters from George Lucas’ original Star Wars Trilogy…
In 1977, George Lucas changed the world when he introduced us to the Star Wars universe. His incredible galaxy far, far away was packed full of larger than life characters which would go to become household names. Here, Liam reveals his top five favourite characters from the original Star Wars Trilogy.
5. Han Solo
Han Solo‘s role in the original trilogy was fantastic to watch, seeing him go from the notorious smuggler to a hero of the rebellion made for some really impressive storytelling that has entertained fans for decades.
My favourite thing about Han despite all his roguish charm is his relationship with Chewbacca; the bond between the pair is honestly one of my favourite things about Star Wars as a whole, and whenever the pair share screen time, you can guarantee I have a huge grin on my face.
4. Leia Organa
Leia Organa is an icon and her arc in the original trilogy is triumphant and empowering for women and men across the galaxy! When fans are first introduced to Leia, she is portrayed as your typical damsel in distress but that soon changes as we find out she can hold her own, and from that moment onwards she becomes more and more vital to the success of the rebellion in their war against the Empire.
3. C-3PO
C-3P0 has been one of my favourite Star Wars characters from the very moment I was introduced to the saga. His one-liners and the back and forth between himself and R2-D2 has made for some really humorous moments that I will never forget. I personally feel that he is one of the most important characters in the saga and it will be a sad day when we no longer see him in future Star Wars projects.
2. Lando Calrissian
Lando Calrissian is by far the smoothest character in the Star Wars universe. The way he carries himself is full of swagger and his smooth-talking and charm makes him even more lovable. There is a certain level of mystery surrounding Lando that leaves me always wanting to see more of him.
One thing I particularly love about Lando is his sense of style; his costumes are some of the most iconic in the saga and they add another element to his charm.
1. Chewbacca
Chewbacca is probably my favourite character in the franchise and his role in the original trilogy plays a huge part in my reasons for that. Chewbacca is the ultimate friend, he’s there for you no matter what and will always protect you; Han Solo is extremely lucky to have Chewbacca by his side.
Chewie has also had some badass moments throughout the original trilogy but my stand out moment is in Return of the Jedi when he steals an AT-ST during the battle of Endor.
