The GCPD series will be set in the same universe as ‘The Batman’
Warner Bros. has announced plans to develop an all-new Gotham Police series for its streaming platform, HBO Max. The series is set to be helmed by The Batman director Matt Reeves and will a direct spin-off set in the same universe as his big-screen caped crusader adventure. The series is set to be the very first project to emerge from the television developmental deal between Reeves and Warner Bros. TV and will be written by Terence Winter (creator of Boardwalk Empire). Dylan Clark has been bought on board as a Series Producer.
“This is an amazing opportunity, not only to expand the vision of the world I am creating in the film but to explore it in the kind of depth and detail that only a long-form format can afford — and getting to work with the incredibly talented Terence Winter, who has written so insightfully and powerfully about worlds of crime and corruption, is an absolute dream,” Matt Reeves said.
“We are so fortunate to have such great partners in Matt, Dylan, and Terry and unprecedented access to a wealth of IP from our partners at Warner Bros. and DC,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content, HBO Max.
As of press time, there is no official release date attached to the project, neither do we have confirmation that Robert Pattinson‘s Batman or Jeffrey Wright‘s Commissioner Gordon will be making an appearance in the show. However, the notion of Reeves continuing to delve into the Gotham City sandbox an expanding upon the diameters of his world is an enticing prospect – one that will excite Gothamites everywhere.
With The Batman expected to hit multiplexes in October 2021, it stands within reason that the series will serve as a continuation of the big-screen Bat adventure sometime in 2022.
Exciting times in Gotham City.
