Millie Bobby Brown twists the Sherlock Holmes mythos in a fun new way!
From the eerie streets of Hawkins to the battle-ravaged streets of Atlanta, Millie Bobby Brown has emerged from adolescence and solidified herself as one of the most reliable up and coming actors of the modern era. After making her big-screen debut in Godzilla: King Of The Monsters last year, the actor is returning to merry old England to take up the challenge of slipping into the guise of one of the greatest detectives of all time. Sherlock Holmes.
Based on the entertaining and imaginative book series by author Nancy Springer, Enola Holmes introduces the world to a 16-year-old super-sleuth who just so happens to be the sister of England’s greatest detective, Sherlock Holmes. But not any ordinary Sherlock Holmes – a Holmes played by none other than Henry Cavill! However, when her beloved mother disappears, Enola takes it upon herself to investigate. Check out the enchanting new trailer below:
Here’s the official synopsis:
England, 1884 – a world on the brink of change. On the morning of her 16th birthday, Enola Holmes (Millie Bobby Brown) wakes to find that her mother (Helena Bonham Carter) has disappeared, leaving behind an odd assortment of gifts but no apparent clue as to where she’s gone or why. After a free-spirited childhood, Enola suddenly finds herself under the care of her brothers Sherlock (Henry Cavill) and Mycroft (Sam Claflin), both set on sending her away to a finishing school for “proper” young ladies. Refusing to follow their wishes, Enola escapes to search for her mother in London. But when her journey finds her entangled in a mystery surrounding a young runaway Lord (Louis Partridge), Enola becomes a super-sleuth in her own right, outwitting her famous brother as she unravels a conspiracy that threatens to set back the course of history. Based on the beloved book series by Nancy Springer, ENOLA HOLMES is a dynamic new mystery-adventure that introduces the world’s greatest detective to his fiercest competition yet: his teenage sister. The game is afoot.
And if that isn’t enough to have you reaching for your spyglass, Netflix has also released the official poster which you can check out below:
Directed by Harry Bradbeer (Killing Eve) from a script penned by Jack Thorne (Wonder, The Fades), Enola Holmes also stars Henry Cavill (Man of Steel, The Witcher) as Sherlock Holmes, Sam Clafin (Adrift, Snow White and the Huntsman) as Mycroft Holmes, and Helena Bonham Carter (Ocean’s 8, Fight Club) as Mrs. Holmes.
Okay, I’m sold. Millie Bobby Brown is building an impressive resume with her recent endeavors and I cannot wait to see her shine alongside Henry Cavill’s Sherlock Holmes. Aside from his role as Superman, Cavill has turned in some noteworthy performances of late and I cannot wait to see how he applies himself to the role of Sherlock Holmes.
The games begin on September 23 exclusive to Netflix.
