The Star Wars alumni steps in to replace Johnny Depp as Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts series
With Johnny Depp being forced to abandon his role as Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts series, all eyes were on Warner Bros. to appoint a suitable replacement – and the smart money was on Mads Mikkelsen. The Rogue One star was tipped for the role some weeks ago, and after a brief spell of radio silence, Warner Bros. has made his casting official. The studio has issued a press release to confirm the casting and recommitted to delivering the threequel on July 15, 2022.

Although he has been forced to abandon the role of Grindelwald, Johnny Depp will still be receiving his full salary, assumed to be somewhere in the realm of eight-figures, due to his pay-or-play contract – which a considerable compensation package.
With the cast list now established, Mikkelsen will now join a stellar cast list that includes Eddie Redmayne (“The Theory of Everything”), Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Callum Turner, William Nadylam, Poppy Corby-Tuech, Jessica Williams, Victoria Yeates, and two-time Oscar nominee Jude Law.

Fantastic Beasts 3 will bring the magic back to multiplexes on July 15, 2022.
