“Be prepared for more royal Christmas films full of princess switching!”
Christmas is in full swing on Netflix, which a handful of new releases. One of those new releases is the sequel to The Princess Switch (2018) – The Princess Switch: Switched Again.
The Princess Switch: Switched Again | Netflix

The title tells us that the two characters played by Vanessa Hudgens: Margaret Delacourt Duchess of Montenaro and Stacy Denova Princess of Begravia will switch places once again. But there is a further twist this time around, Vanessa Hudgens plays another character: Fiona Pembroke the cousin of Margaret. Fiona is a great addition to the film, she’s conniving, sassy and unique. Vanessa does a great job at playing three parts, all three characters are fully realised and distinguishable.

The lovable characters from the first film are back including: Prince Edward (Sam Palladio), Baker Kevin (Nick Sagar) and adorable Olivia (who is this time played Mia Lloyd). We immediately discover that Margaret is to be crowned Queen after her uncle died, because of this her relationship with Kevin fell apart. Stacy decides that they should all be there to support Margaret and proposes that they once again swap places so that Margaret can have some bonding time with Kevin. The only problem is Fiona wants to kidnap Margaret in order to steal money. It is a really fun film to watch, even though the narrative is at times predictable. The film is full of Christmas cheer and cheese. It is a perfect easy watch Christmas film. Although I do question why these Netflix films feel the need to over decorate palaces in tacky Christmas decorations.

But the most interesting moment of the film takes place in the last five minutes. During Margaret’s Christmas day coronation we get a shot of Queen Amber (Rose Mclver) and King Richard (Ben Lamb) from the A Christmas Prince trilogy (also on Netflix). This is conformation that Netflix have created their own version of the MCU – a Christmas universe. Now that we know these films take place in the same universe we also now know that a fourth Character played by Vanessa Hudgens exists in this universe. Last year Netflix released another Christmas film – The Knight Before Christmas. In this film King Richard and Queen Ambers country is referenced meaning all of these movies are part of the same universe. Which means Netflix might just be beginning.

Be prepared for more royal Christmas films full of princess switching! I cannot wait to see what will come next.
