Godzilla vs Kong is coming! Adam Wingard‘s epic showdown between the world’s greatest monsters will hit 48-hour rental from April 1st
GODZILLA VS KONG is coming to the UK. And much sooner than first thought. With the U.S about to enjoy a feast of mega-movies on HBO Max, cinephiles in the UK have been left wondering when we can join the party. Wonder Woman 1984 debuted on the streamer weeks before fans in the UK had the chance to get their first look. And many of us feared we would be forced to endure another agonizing wait for Adam Wingard’s monster movie.
Thankfully, those fears have been laid to rest. Warner Bros. has confirmed that Godzilla Vs Kong will be smashing its way to the U.K in April. The movie will head straight to a 48-hour PVOD rental on the 1st of April. Just one day after its launch in the United States.
The release keeps it in line with other films in Warner Bros’ stable like WW84. Patty Jenkins’ DC blockbuster enjoyed a lucrative run on PVOD and proved to be the perfect tonic to see us through another lockdown. And with cinemas not looking likely to reopen until May at the earliest, Warner Bros. is hoping for more of the same.
Of course, there will be many among us that would prefer to see the ultimate monster mash on the biggest screen possible. And be immersed in glorious ear-bursting sound and spectacular IMAX visuals. But in the COVID era, a traditional release just isn’t feasible right now. That being said, Warner Bros. has not ruled out a theatrical release should cinemas reopen in May as planned. So, keep your fingers crossed.
Until then, we can all look forward to sitting down to the ultimate battle of the monsters this April. But first, there is the small matter of Zack Snyder’s Justice League that will launch on Sky Movies and Now TV next week.
But if you’re still craving a Godzilla vs Kong fix, check out the brand new IMAX poster which was revealed earlier today.
Mark the date in your calendar. Godzilla battles Kong on April 1st.
