Finally Revealed: Get your first look at Kate Mulgrew’s iconic Kathryn Janeway in the new animated series Star Trek Prodigy
Well, First Contact Day was an absolute blast. Not only were we treated to new revelations about Discovery, Picard, and Lower Decks. But when the team from Star Trek: Prodigy took center stage, a treasure trove of awesomeness beamed in! Series Executive Producers Kevin and Dan Hageman alongside Kate Mulgrew arrived to deliver the final panel of the day, and the news just kept coming!
The first of the big reveals was where the series fits in the Trek timeline. After a lot of speculation, we are delighted to report that Star Trek Prodigy takes place in the Delta Quadrant in 2383. And will take place sometime after the events of Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Nemesis.
In a fun twist, Kate Mulgrew returns to reprise her role as Kathryn Janeway. But this time, the iconic Starfleet Captain assumes the form of an “Emergency Training Program”. And she will be on hand to offer support and guidance to an unruly bunch of rookie Starfleet cadets. But the fun didn’t end there. The team also revealed some glorious new images of Janeway in her animated form.
And at long last, we have a new synopsis that accompanies the series:
Star Trek: Prodigy will follow a motley crew of young aliens who must figure out how to work together while navigating a greater galaxy, in search for a better future. These six young outcasts know nothing about the ship they have commandeered – a first in the history of the Star Trek Franchise – but over the course of their adventures together, they will each be introduced to Starfleet and the ideals it represents.
Sadly, the team failed to confirm a release date for the series. But with Lower Decks Season 2, and Discovery Season 4 already confirmed for 2021, we will have plenty of Trek content to keep us entertained!
