Join Luke as he trains with Yoda on Dagobah in this adorable Star Wars picture book.
In this latest Star Wars picture book, Luke is off to Dagobah to train with Yoda. Written from Yoda’s point of view, he addresses the reader as a Youngling that has followed Luke and also wants to be a Jedi. Many of Yoda’s quotes from Empire Strikes Back and included here, and Preeti seamlessly blends them with newlines. The book celebrates the 40th Anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back, which was in 2020.

Mike Deas is an artist of several picture books, picture book biographies for Scholastic Canada, and graphic novels with his wife. His art is beautifully rendered in what appears to be watercolor with digital accents. I loved the artwork so much, that a co-worker who makes bookmarks out of picture book covers for our patrons made me a couple out of the cover. (I should note that in my system, we remove the paper covers during the cataloging process if the picture is printed on the hardcover. Rather than covering them with the clear Mylar. My co-worker then takes the artwork and makes beautiful bookmarks for our patrons that we give out for free.)
VERDICT
While this one isn’t my favorite of the picture books in recent years, it is cute and beautiful. I really enjoyed it. And I want to do another Star Wars Storytime with it, as soon as we are doing in-person Storytimes again. This is the perfect read for after watching Empire with your Youngling. Those Younglings on a first or second-grade reading level should have no problem reading this one on their own or to younger siblings.
Star Wars: A Jedi You Will Be by Preeti Chhiber is published by Disney Books and is available to buy in the United States NOW! UK fans will have to wait until December 29, when the book goes on sale.
