Book Of Boba Fett

“Boba Fett makes a glorious return with the season premiere of The Book of Boba Fett!”

After some weeks without new Star Wars content, we finally have our fix with the premiere of The Book of Boba Fett! I have been waiting for this series since it was announced at the end of the season 2 finale of The Mandalorian last year. And that comes from someone who used to not like Boba Fett. His re-introduction in The Mandalorian made me love the character and that is thanks to Jon Favreau’s writing and the fact that Temuera Morrison is playing him. Seeing him without his helmet makes all the difference! So that being said, is the premiere of Boba’s first series worth it?

PAST AND PRESENT

When Boba Fett came back last year in The Mandalorian, people were left wondering how he survived the Sarlacc? The Book of Boba Fett is finally answering that question! The episode is divided between flashbacks of Boba’s past especially how he survived the Sarlacc and the present where he tries to be the Daimyo of Tatooine. There is a lot of story to tell both in the past and the present. I really like the narrative structure of the series.

GLORIOUS RETURN

Boba Fett makes a glorious return with this premiere. It is a character-driven story in which we get to learn more about his character. He is now the main character of his own series! It’s very interesting to see him as a “crime lord.” At least he tries to be one. And it’s a different approach than Jabba had. He is more benevolent. It’s very much in line with the Boba we saw in The Mandalorian. But he also knows when to fight. And when he does, it gets very serious. The episode has some intense action scenes!

As for the flashbacks, Boba has to go through a lot! And I think it’s probably what happens there that leads to how Boba is in The Mandalorian and the present of this series. It’s quite compelling to witness this survival story! And it wouldn’t be Star Wars without new creatures along the way! Plus, some of the flashbacks made me want to rewatch Attack of The Clones. This episode has some heavy Prequels feels and I’m all here for them!

SCORE

Ludwig Göransson’s themes from The Mandalorian are re-used here and he has also composed an amazing new theme for the end credits. I have this track stuck in my head! The main score is composed by Joseph Shirley. He does a great job following Göransson’s footsteps.

CAST

Temuera Morrison is fantastic as Boba Fett. He puts all his heart into this character, that’s an intense performance. And as someone who is part Polynesian, it feels good to have someone like me play a strong lead character. Like I always say representation matters. Ming-Na Wen is just as awesome as Fennec Shand. I am just so glad Fennec wasn’t killed off in her first episode of The Mandalorian like it was originally planned. She became an instant favorite for me! And she forms a great duo with Boba.
