Review | Disenchantment Part 4 - Future of the Force

“Disanchentment Part 4 delivers even more craziness for an explosive and entertaining ride.”

Matt Groening’s most recent series is back for a fourth part, which is actually the second half of season two. So far this has been a provocative and fun series, so let’s see if these new episodes are as good as what came before.

Part three ended in a very chaotic way with Bean promised in marriage to Satan, Luci in heaven, Elfo captured by the ogres and Zøg in an asylum for crazy people. Part Four picks up right where we left off. And honestly, throughout the ten episodes there is never a dull moment. It’s a chaotic season going from craziness to craziness. That is exactly what I love about this series. It’s not afraid to take risks and it really goes all in. It can be quite shocking at times. It’s actually a good thing because as viewers, we want to be surprised and see the unexpected. With the series taking place in a fantasy universe, the possibilities are endless. All the more since this universe is made of different worlds like Dreamland that is a purely fantasy world while Steamland is a scifi world.

Disenchantment is a series that is very serious, insanely crazy and also a lot of fun. Part four continues on that path with even more plot twists and revelations. The central theme this time is fighting your own demons. It’s both on a “spiritual level” and quite literally. Even though on the outside, it may just seem craziness, when you think about it, this series digs deep into the characters. As you can expect the season once again ends with a big cliffhanger. So fingers cross for a fifth part because I really need to know what happens next!

VISUALS

This series uses a similar style of animation as The Simpsons but with a bigger budget and in 4K. So it obviously looks even better! You can tell they use 3D painted to look like 2D for some aerial shots of Dreamland and Steamland, which looks impressively good!
