Review | Ambulance - Future of the Force

STORY

First of all, when you go to see a Michael Bay movie, don’t expect a masterpiece. Though, what you can expect is a lot of action and explosions. So when I go to see one of his movies, I just unplug my brain and try to enjoy the action. And honestly, it’s fun to have that type of popcorn movie once in a while.

Ambulance surely delivers on the action front. It’s a two-hour high-speed car chase. And it’s an exhilarating one. I got to say, it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. You got to give it to Michael Bay for being able to make a movie almost entirely focused on a car chase. It never stops. Indeed, it is as action-packed as it gets.

About the script, like I said above, just switch your brain off when you go to see a Michael Bay movie. The plot is basic and some of the dialogs are quite bad. But, you are here for the action and that movie delivers on that.

CAST

This movie’s greatest strength is its cast. The trio Jake Gyllenhaal, Eiza González and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II are without any doubt pretty great. Jake delivers an intense performance. Throughout the movie, you can tell he is totally committed to the role. And I do think playing villains suit him. Indeed, the intensity of his performance reminded me of what he did on Spider-Man Far From Home. So I really appreciate this. On the other hand, Yahya delivers a more compassionate performance which allows the audience to care about his character. Thus, his character doesn’t appear much as a villain but rather more as a victim. As for González, she is really good in this role.

SOUNDTRACK

Lorne Balfe has composed the score for this movie. And just like for Black Widow, he did a sensational work. And he didn’t have to go this hard for a Michael Bay movie but he did. It was definitely a pleasure for my ears. I do believe he is a composer who deserves more recognition.
