Ryan Reynolds gets the Christmas Carol treatment in the trailer for Apple TV’s holiday musical SPIRITED – streaming November 18, 2022
With Christmas right around the corner, the big streaming services are busy finalizing their festive watchlists. But with so many vying for our attention, it has become a race against time. And today, Apple TV+ has launched the opening gambit with the festive new trailer for the upcoming musical comedy SPIRITED. The movie is a contemporary tongue-in-cheek take on Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol and boasts the talents of Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell.
The flick looks like an all-singing, all-dancing rollercoaster ride that effortlessly captures the spirit of Dickens’ masterwork. But with Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell on hand to bring the laughter, the movie looks to have a fun and fresh approach that will delight audiences everywhere. But don’t take my word for it. Grab yourself a mince pie and hit play on the trailer below.
Each Christmas Eve, the Ghost of Christmas Present (Will Ferrell) selects one dark soul to be reformed by a visit from three spirits. But this season, he picked the wrong Scrooge. Clint Briggs (Ryan Reynolds) turns the tables on his ghostly host until Present finds himself reexamining his own past, present and future. For the first time, ‘A Christmas Carol’ is told from the perspective of the ghosts in this hilarious musical twist on the classic Dickens tale.
From director Sean Anders (“Daddy’s Home,” “Instant Family”), written by Sean Anders and John Morris, with original songs by Oscar winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (“La La Land”) and production numbers choreographed by Chloe Arnold (“The Late Late Show with James Corden”), this modern retelling is a sweet and spicy holiday treat.
CAST & CREW
Aside from Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds, Spirited stars Octavia Spencer, Sunita Mani, Patrick Page, Joe Tippett, Marlow Barkley, and Jen Tullock. The movie has been directed by who pulls double duty as a producer. The production staff is rounded out by Sean Anders and John Morris through Two Grown Men. David Koplan, George Dewey through Maximum Effort Productions. Will Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum through Gloria Sanchez.
Well then, Spirited looks like it’s going to be an absolute blast. The rapport between Ferrell and Reynolds alone guarantees that we are in for a hilarious Christmas adventure. And when coupled with some truly wonderful dance numbers and some impressive production value, we could be looking at our next Christmas classic. One worthy of Ebeneezer Scrooge himself. And that alone is worthy of eggnog toast or two.
