STORY

This series is a refreshing take on romantic comedies. It follows the story of Anzu Hoshino who has no interest in romance. Her three basic needs are video games, her cat Momohiki and chocolate. However, her world changes when a wizard named Riri takes that away from her until she can experience true romance. He is supposed to assist her in finding love. For that, he recreates several situations from otome-games bringing Ikemen into Anzu’s life.

Obviously, she is fighting back Riri’s attempts. So, each of these situations become more and more ridiculous. From a tree branch impalling the door stucking Kazuki in the house with Anzu to Kauzki’s appartment being devastated by water forcing him to live with her, it is an avalanche of laughs. And Riri does not hold back with the Ikemen. Indeed, he sends all the cliché you can imagine – the mysterious guy, the rich one and the athelete.

Although, most of the season is lighthearted, the final episodes are really dark and serious. In that way, it definitely feels similar to Sarazanmai. And when it ends, you are also hoping for more because it is just so good. So I hope as much people as possible watch this one. Yes, I do need a second season.

Romantic Killer has great characters designs. They made the three Ikemen as attractive as possible for Anzu. Each has his own style that fits his personality. And because there are a lot of ridiculous situations, this anime doesn’t hold back on the crazily weird faces. Anzu goes through all the weird faces you can imagine. It is quite hilarious!

OPENING AND END CREDITS

The opening theme song is “ROMA☆KiRA” by YURiKA. It gives the opening a strong romance vibe. It almost feels like a trick. These credits present the different characters and the settings. While the ending theme is “Romantic Love ~Renai Shimasen ka?☆~” by Mikako Komatsu. And this one is all about the craziness of the series. So, it is a nice contrast to have these two different credits. It works so well for this series.

VERDICT

Romantic Killer is an entertaining and refreshing take on romantic comedies.

Romantic Killer is streaming on Netflix right now!
