First Look | Indiana Jones Hits The Cover Of Empire Magazine

The search for fortune and glory nears its end. Here’s our first look at Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones in the upcoming final adventure!

Lucasfilm has finally delivered our first look at the final Indiana Jones adventure. The long-awaited sequel promises to send Harrison Ford off into the sunset on a high. And although the movie isn’t hitting cinema screens until June, Empire Magazine has been given the keys to the kingdom and has shared some awesome new images that reveal the first look at Indy and his co-stars.

It’s always a pleasure to see Harrison Ford donning the fedora. And he, as expected is leading the charge. But in addition to Indy, the images have revealed our first look at Mads Mikkelsen‘s new character, as well as Boyd Holbrook riding a motorcycle. Mikkelsen’s character appears to be a quintessential Nazi and the plot of the movie reflects his involvement. The plot focuses on the space race in 1969 – a time in history heavily influenced by the remnants of the Nazi regime. A plot point that screenwriter Jez Butterworth is eager to tap into.

“the simple fact is that the moon-landing program was run by a bunch of ex-Nazis.” He notes the conflict revolves around “how ‘ex’ they are is the question. And it gets up Indy’s nose…”

VOLLER

Although Mikkelsen appears to be a remnant from Raiders of the Lost Ark, his character has been revealed as Voller. A character who wants to correct some of the mistakes of the past. And Butterworth is eager to lean into the old days of Indy against the Nazis.

“There is something that could make the world a much better place to live in. He would love to get his hands on it. Indiana Jones wants to get his hands on it as well. And so, we have a story.”

FLASHBACKS

It’s been rumored for a while that the movie will feature a few flashbacks sequences with a de-aged Harrison Ford. This allows director James Mangold to insert some vital plot threads between The Last Crusade and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Many of these will link directly to Indy’s relationship with his old nemesis and their role in his final adventure. It is also worth noting that Harrison Ford described his final outing as Indy at the end of his journey. Although Indy married his long-time lover Marion Ravenwood in the previous outing, it seems that the search for fortune and glory has enough fuel in the tank for one last adventure.

“I just thought it would be nice to see one where Indiana Jones was at the end of his journey,” Harrison Ford explains. “If a script came along that I felt gave me a way to extend the character.”
