The feature debut by Lofty Nathan, Harka, will hit UK cinemas on May 5th.

The critically acclaimed debut feature film from Lofty Nathan, Harka, is heading to UK cinemas this May. The film, starring the award-winning actor Adam Bessa, will open on May 5th. Ahead of the film’s opening, a new trailer has been revealed. Say hello to Harka:

HARKA

Directed by Lotfy Nathan, HARKA received critical acclaim following a wide festival run including Cannes (where Adam Bessa was awarded Best Actor in the ‘Un Certain Regard’ category), TIFF, Sao Paulo International Film Festival and Red Sea International Film Festival, where Lotfy Nathan was awarded Best Director and Adam Bessa grabbed another Best Actor prize for his performance, as well as being featured in Industry Selects at TIFF this year.

A modern-day parable about resistance, the film centers on the story of Ali, a young Tunisian who dreams of a better life, making a precarious living selling contraband gas at the local black market. When his father suddenly dies, he’s forced to take charge of his two younger sisters and their impending eviction. What ensues is a fight for dignity. The voice of a generation still trying to be heard 10 years after the Arab Spring.

HARKA is the feature debut of writer and director Lotfy Nathan, whose previous film, the documentary 12 O’Clock Boys, was adapted into the HBO Max feature film Charm City Riders.

Get ready to meet the award-winning Harka when it releases in UK cinemas on May 5th.
