After the positive reaction to The Flash, Andy Muschietti has been confirmed to be helming DC’s new Batman adventure The Brave and the Bold
Warner Bros and DC Studios have confirmed Andy Muschietti as the director of the upcoming Batman adventure The Brave and the Bold. The appointment has been rumored for some time. But with his incredible work on The Flash taken into consideration, the studio has moved fast to get their man. Muschietti’s sister and collaborator Barbara will produce the project via their label Double Dream, alongside James Gunn and Peter Safran. In response to the news, the studio and its joint CEO Peter Safran and James Gunn told Variety:
“We saw ‘The Flash’; even before taking the reins at DC Studios, and knew we were in the hands of not only a visionary director but a massive DC fan,” Gunn and Safran told Variety of Muschietti. “It’s a magnificent film – funny, emotional, thrilling – and Andy’s affinity and passion for these characters and this world just resonates through every frame. So, when it came time to find a director for ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ there was really only one choice. Luckily, Andy said yes. Barbara signed on to produce with us and we were on our way. They’re an extraordinary team, and we couldn’t have better or more inspiring partners as we embark on this thrilling new adventure in the DCU.”

BATMAN RETURNS!
The upcoming superhero adventure is part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s relaunch of the DCU under the banner of Gods and Monsters. According to Gunn, the newest Batman adventure will introduce the world to a new Dark Knight and a young Damien Wayne/Robin. The story is inspired by Grant Morrison’s comic series and will focus on the family dynamic of the caped crusaders.
RETURN OF THE CAPED CRUSADERS
The return of the Dynamic Duo has been a long time coming. Robin has been unfairly omitted from the wider DC Universe following his divisive outings in Joel Schumacher’s Batman sequels. And although some fans, myself included would rather see Dick Grayson back in the iconic suit, it is refreshing to see Damien Wayne given his chance to shine. Whether or not Dick Grayson will return as Nightwing further down the line remains to be seen. But with Gunn promising the imminent arrival of the Bat Family, surely Batgirl and Nightwing won’t be too far behind.
The first BIG task for Muschietti, Gunn, and Safran is to cast the DCU’s new Batman. The duty of filling the Caped Crusader’s cowl is a tough ask. One that has the power to make or break a career. But with Gunn confirming that any actor cast in the new DCU will be tied into long-term contracts, the new Batman will be here to stay for the foreseeable future. And that alone is enough to compel Bat-fans back to Gotham City! After thoroughly enjoying The Flash, I couldn’t be more excited by Muschietti taking the helm on this one. The director had two cracks at Batman in Barry Allen’s solo adventure and he nailed both! So just imagine what he could do with the dynamic duo!

RELEASE
But before we get ahead of ourselves, the rest of 2023 has a wonderful slate of DC movies. Next up is Blue Beetle in August. And then, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will strengthen the foundation of Jason Momoa’s tenure as the King of the Seven Seas. So get ready for a rollercoaster ride of DC awesomeness!
