Review | DC's Blue Beetle (2023)

The latest comic book movie from DC Studios, Blue Beetle, gets a brand new shiny trailer. Catch it in theatres from August 18th.

So far this year, DC Studios has released two movies that were expected to be big box office blockbusters. Except they sadly failed to blow the box office away. Shazam! Fury Of The Gods tanked badly (Read our review here.) And for various reasons, The Flash didn’t exactly run off with those much-needed greenbacks (Read our review here.) With Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom coming our way this December, DC needs a big hit at the box office.

That’s where (hopefully) Blue Beetle will come in. The film was due to head straight to streaming on MAX before wiser heads prevailed, granting the film a theatrical release. It is the first film under the new DC universe spearheaded by James Gunn. The film stars Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes / Blue Beetle alongside Adriana Barraza, Damián Alcázar, Raoul Max Trujillo, Susan Sarandon, and George Lopez. Today has seen the brand-new trailer for the film being unveiled.

THE PREMISE

Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero BLUE BEETLE.
