Visionary British theatre producer, John Gore has acquired the iconic Hammer Films and Studios, in an acquisition announced today. Gore, the twenty-time Tony-winning, Emmy and Olivier-winning British entertainment producer, renowned for his live theatre company the John Gore Organisation which owns Broadway.com and Broadway Across America – the leading presenter, distributor, and marketer of Broadway theatre worldwide – has acquired Hammer Films. Gore will lead a new team as Chairman and C.E.O.

Marking a significant moment for both Hammer Films and Gore, the acquisition brings together two incredible forces in the entertainment industry. With significant investment in Hammer Films, the partnership will breathe new life into the studio. Blending the nostalgic charm of Hammer with modern cinematic style and innovation. All the while preserving its rich heritage and vast library, ensuring continued appreciation by generations to come.

HAMMER FILMS AND STUDIOS

Hammer Films and Studios has held its iconic status in the film industry and made an indelible mark on British and global cinema since it was founded in 1934. The company is synonymous with horror, after defining the genre in Britain with classics such as Dracula. The Curse of Frankenstein and The Mummy, which made stars of Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. While spawning numerous sequels widely adored by audiences across the globe. It also produced such classics as One Million Years B.C. starring Raquel Welch and She starring Ursula Andress. Although famous for horror it had great success across all genres and achieved the rare cross-over success from film to TV and vice versa.

With a captivating new slate of films and projects that will be unveiled in the coming months, the first film of the new incarnation of the studio to be released is B Good Picture Company’s Doctor Jekyll, starring Eddie Izzard and Scott Chambers, directed by Joe Stephenson. It is due for a cinema release later this year.

ABOUT JOHN GORE

John Gore has won 20 Tonys, an Olivier and 2 Emmy Awards. He is a British producer who is Chairman, CEO and sole owner of the John Gore Organization family of companies. These include Broadway Across America, Broadway.com, The Broadway Channel, BroadwayBox.com and Group Sales Box Office. It is the first theatre company to ever achieve a gross revenue in excess of $1 billion which it did in 2019 and 2022.

BROADWAY

The company produces shows on Broadway, in London’s West End, Japan (Harry Potter and The Cursed Child). And China (Wicked) and presents in 48 cities across North America. Presentations include Disney’s The Lion King, Wicked, The Book of Mormon and Hamilton. On Broadway, he led the production of “How to Succeed in Business” starring Daniel Radcliffe. And “Promises, Promises” starring Sean Hayes and Kristin Chenoweth. Recent U.S. co-productions include Ain’t Too Proud; Chicago; Dear Evan Hansen; Hamilton; Mean Girls; Beetlejuice; and Moulin Rouge! The Musical; Tina: The Tina Turner Musical and Pretty Woman the Musical.

OTHER PRODUCING WORK

His other producing work includes the film “Believe: The Eddie Izzard Story” (2010 Emmy Award nomination). And the television special, WCBS-TV’s “At The Tony’s” (2018 NY Emmy Award). He directed the first official stage adaptations of Batman and Star Trek. As well as producing the record-breaking Thunderbirds FAB, which at the age of 26 made him the youngest-ever successful West End producer. A record that he still holds today. He followed this with the hit Wallace & Gromit on stage at Sadler’s Wells. His show investments include the original London productions of Wicked and Hamilton.

PHILANTHROPY

A committed philanthropist, John and his companies provide support to a diverse array of more than 60 organizations. Spanning virtually every conceivable sector of not-for-profit theatre work. Recent programs include establishing a new award supporting emerging artists with the Princess Grace Foundation USA, underwriting Hamilton’s education programs with the Gilder-Lehrman Institute of American History, and providing theatre educators in the NYC public schools through the Arthur Miller Foundation. As well as supporting Columbia University’s T-Fellowship Program. And the American Theatre Wing. In 2017, John partnered with Scarlett Johansson to organize a one-night-only, all-star benefit reading of Our Town featuring Johansson, Robert Downey Jr. and the cast of the Avengers, raising $500,000 for the Hurricane Maria Community Relief & Recovery Fund.
