Prime Video has delivered a festive treat by unveiling our first look at Eddie Murphy’s first-ever Christmas comedy CANDY CANE LANE
With Christmas right around the corner, the big streaming services are busy finalizing their festive watchlists. But with so many vying for our attention, it has become a race against time. Today, Prime Video has launched the opening gambit with our first look at Eddie Murphy’s CANDY CANE LANE.
The upcoming festive comedy represents a first for the actor, who, until now has steered clear of Christmas material. But the chance to collaborate again with Reginald Hudlin, and producer Brian Grazer for the first time since their 1992 hit, Boomerang was too good to pass up. And soon, fans can look forward to enjoying a treasure trove of candy canes, Christmas calamities, and festive fun…all delivered with Murphy’s trademark comedic chops.
A FESTIVE FIRST
Eddie Murphy stars in this holiday comedy adventure about a man on a mission to win his neighborhood’s annual Christmas home decoration contest. After Chris (Eddie Murphy) inadvertently makes a deal with a mischievous elf named Pepper (Jillian Bell) to better his chances of winning, she casts a magic spell that brings the 12 Days of Christmas to life and wreaks havoc on the whole town. At the risk of ruining the holidays for his family, Chris, his wife Carol (Tracee Ellis Ross), and their three children must race against the clock to break Pepper’s spell, battle deviously magical characters, and save Christmas for everyone. The screenplay comes from Kelly Younger, inspired by his own holiday experiences on Candy Cane Lane in El Segundo, California. The film is directed by Reginald Hudlin and boasts Doug Merrifield as a producer. Rounding out the production team are producers Brian Grazer, Eddie Murphy, Karen Lunder, and Charisse Hewitt-Webster.

Well then, Candy Cane Lane looks like it’s going to be an absolute blast. The involvement of Murphy alone guarantees that we are in for a hilarious Christmas adventure. And when coupled with some truly impressive production value, we could be looking at our next Christmas classic. One worthy of Ebeneezer Scrooge himself. And that alone is worthy of eggnog toast or two.
