Dave Filoni will work directly with Kathleen Kennedy to originate and shepherd the next generation of Star Wars shows and movies.
Dave Filoni has officially been promoted to Chief Creative Officer at Lucasfilm. With his stellar STAR WARS: AHSOKA series still delighting fans and critics alike, the studio has moved quickly to get the visionary filmmaker more involved with projects at the initial stages. In his new role, Filoni will work more directly with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. Alongside Carrie Beck, he will originate and shepherd the next generation of Star Wars shows and movies.
Filoni’s promotion means that he will be on hand to help shape the future of the franchise. A mandate he was trained for by George Lucas himself. So even THE MAKER will be brimming with pride today. As of press time, the intricacies of the position are largely unclear. However, after his years of dedication and superb visual direction, this achievement is thoroughly deserved.

CHIEF CREATIVE OFFICER
“Now I’m what’s called chief creative officer of Lucasfilm,” Filoni tells Vanity Fair, which places him into the development process much earlier and in a much more expansive capacity than his previous advisory duties. “In the past, in a lot of projects I would be brought into it, I would see it after it had already developed a good ways.”
Filoni will now work more directly with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and alongside Carrie Beck, a veteran producer turned head of development, to originate and shepherd the next generation of Star Wars shows and movies. After spending many years involved in the creation of Star Wars animation, including the Rebels series, he became increasingly involved in live-action as a producer with Jon Favreau on the The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. “In this new role, it’s opened up to basically everything that’s going on,” Filoni says. “When we’re planning the future of what we’re doing now, I’m involved at the inception phase.”
“I’m not telling people what to do,” Filoni says. “But I do feel I’m trying to help them tell the best story that they want to tell. I need to be a help across the galaxy here, like a part of a Jedi Council almost.”

CONGRATULATIONS!
The apprentice is now officially a master. Dave Filoni’s commitment to delivering some of the finest Star Wars content of the last two decades is a true credit to the franchise. And with The Book of Boba Fett, The Mandalorian, and Star Wars: Ahsoka all emerging from beneath his watchful eye; the future of the franchise is very bright indeed. And that will be music to the ears of Star Wars fans everywhere.
In my review of the AHSOKA premiere episodes, I said “The premiere episodes are almost flawless. The combination of an engaging story, glorious cinematography, stunning visuals, a sensational orchestral soundtrack, and a directorial style on par with the maker himself, makes Star Wars: Ahsoka Dave Filoni’s magnum opus. And if this is a glimpse at what Filoni is capable of, then Star Wars can look forward to a promising future. One that has all the hallmarks and visual flair of George Lucas’s influence.” Read my full review here.
