THE SERIES OVERVIEW
The Serial Killer’s Wife is set in a family home nestled in an idyllic English town, where Beth Fairchild has prepared a surprise birthday party for her husband Tom. With most of the village present as Tom is the beloved local doctor, Beth’s world is turned upside down when the party is interrupted by the police and Tom is arrested for the murder of his former assistant.
Beth believes her husband has been wrongly accused but as cold cases re-open and more dead women are linked to Tom, Beth’s own past becomes headline news, leading her to seek help from Adam, her husband’s best friend. As Beth peels away the layers of her supposedly perfect life, she is forced to confront disturbing questions about herself and her marriage: has she ignored signs of her husband’s violence all along? And does she truly know the man she vowed to spend her life with? As she realises not everything in her supposedly idyllic life is as it seems.

THE EPISODES
*BEWARE! SPOILERS LIE AHEAD!*
EPISODE 1
In the quaint coastal town of Blackwater, Beth Fairchild is throwing her husband Tom a lavish birthday party. However, celebrations take a grim turn when police arrest him for the murder of his receptionist. Determined to protect her family and reputation, Beth provides him with an alibi, leading to Tom’s release. Yet, a discovery soon casts doubt on his innocence.

EPISODE 2
Confronted with some uncomfortable truths about her husband, Tom confesses to some of the things he is accused of but adamantly denies any involvement in the murder. Coincidentally, Beth discovers evidence leading to somebody else in the community being the prime suspect and goes to the police. However, that person retaliates by viciously attacking Beth and reveals Tom was in fact present near the crime scene.

EPISODE 3
Grappling with the new revelation, Beth turns to Tom’s best friend Adam for help. Meanwhile, the police connect Tom to more murder victims. News of Tom and Beth’s unconventional sexual history quickly spreads across town, forcing them to address the fallout publicly. Beth and Adam plot an escape but as Tom tries to intercept them, a car chase ensues, which ends with Tom’s car crashing into the sea, but when the vehicle is retrieved, he is nowhere to be found.

EPISODE 4
A year later, after Tom’s disappearance, Beth re-weds none other than Adam, but the happy day is shortlived as Beth uncovers evidence of who the true serial killer is. With this new damning evidence, Beth teams up with the police to finally capture the serial killer and finally regain control of her life.

CHARACTER BIOS
Beth Fairchild – Annabel Scholey
Beth Fairchild is a woman who has been shaped as much by her past as she has by her efforts to build a life antithetical to it. Raised by her single mother after she left her abusive partner, Beth and her mum lived a nomadic life, contrasting with her longing for stability. This unsettled upbringing gave Beth a boldness she was forced to tame in her new life as Tom Fairchild’s better half and mother of Poppy. She traded her independence for something safe but unfulfilling, alienating a part of herself to fit in with her new environment. Yet, despite her best attempts to assimilate and embrace her middle-class dreams, Beth is still a fish out of water, and occasionally the cracks
revealing her true persona start to show. When we first meet her, Beth’s character is all about self-preservation. When the ordeal of being married to someone accused of being a serial killer hits her, Beth is still so desperate to cling onto her picture-perfect reality that she is willing to overlook any evidence that might confirm those accusations. For someone who has worked so hard to create a façade of normalcy, the thought of being exposed as a fraud is terrifying. That’s why Beth doesn’t want to see her perfect little bubble punctured. Little does she know, however, that what she doesn’t want is exactly what she needs.

Tom Fairchild – Jack Farthing
Tom Fairchild wields charm and manipulation in equal measure, drawing people into his magnetic orbit. Regardless of the type of relationship – whether it’s a friendship, romantic, or sexual – Tom likes to exercise dominance. With his wife Beth this is expressed through subtle acts of coercive control. With his best friend Adam it is through underhanded comments disguised as humour. In general, people around Tom tend to feel wrong-footed and dependent on his approval, and Tom uses this to his advantage.
This need for power and control might be what drew Tom to erotic asphyxiation, a grim mirror of his latent sadism and misogyny. Where an open and adventurous sex life used to be the bedrock of his relationship with Beth, the illicit nature of his extramarital affairs amplified his
violent tendencies, which began dangerously escalating. Tom cultivates the façade of the beloved doctor and good husband while harbouring a darkness that few glimpse. When his status as pillar of the community is threatened, Tom, a man unused to life not bending his way, becomes a volatile and dangerous force.

Adam Plummer – Luke Treadaway
Adam has led a life cast in Tom’s shadow. Adam was Oxbridge like Tom but on a scholarship, brighter than Tom but had to work harder, charming with women, but not as successful. A close friend of Adam and Beth’s, with a daughter of a similar age, Adam bears a modest, “good guy” demeanour.

DI Aline Edgeworth – Angela Griffin
DI Aline Edgeworth has learnt to carry around a bag of clean shirts in her car. She never knows when she’ll be able to get home and change; that’s how committed she is to her job. The DI in charge of the investigations into Katy’s murder, her character is defined by her profession: she works around the clock, is efficient, driven and direct, though her determination often causes her to pursue her goals with blinkers on.

The UK original series The Serial Killer’s Wife will premiere exclusively on Paramount+ on December 15th.
