From new series, returning series, new and exclusive movies, and the return of the Geordies, It’s a happy new year on Paramount+
It is a happy new year this January on Paramount+. After some sterling entertainment in December, there’s an abundance of new entertainment coming our way from the Paramount Mountain to start 2024 with a bang. From the original UK series Sexy Beast, the exclusive series Accused. The returning second season of Sky Med, and series 24 of Geordie Shore, there’s so much to enjoy. Sit back, grab a hot drink, and get ready as we take a look at what has descended from the mountain this January.
SEXY BEAST
The first three episodes drop on January 25th. There are 8 episodes in total of 60 minutes each. London, 1992. Gal Dove, a rising thief, is offered an opportunity to escape his mundane life. And expand his criminal enterprise with a job from leading criminal bosses Teddy Bass and Stan Higgins. Pressurised by long-time accomplice Don Logan, brother to illicit arcade boss Cecelia Logan, Gal agrees and pulls together a group of loyal boys. But soon comes to understand that everything comes with a price. After meeting Deedee, a renowned adult actress who seeks full control over her career, Gal is transfixed and desires a life beyond anything he’s ever dreamed.
But with a wedding to his sweetheart fiance on the horizon. And the increasingly demanding jobs drawing attention from rival criminals, Gal finds himself more isolated than ever. Not realising his closest ally is having an even darker crisis of their own. Unable to turn back, Gal must find his feet in the dark criminal world. And protect those he loves at all costs before it’s too late.
SKY MED SERIES 2
The box set drops on January 12th. There are 9 episodes of 60 minutes each. The young medics and pilots flying air ambulances return for more life and death. And drama in the skies of remote Northern Canada. SkyMed’s second season promises new hookups, breakups and heartbreaks. As the medevac service expands into new territory, throwing the flight crew into intense new emergencies at work and in their personal lives.
ACCUSED
The first five episodes drop on January 4th. There are 15 episodes of 60 minutes each. Accused is based on the BBC’s BAFTA-Winning crime anthology. In which each episode opens in a courtroom on the accused without knowing their crime. Or how they ended up on trial, the drama is told from the defendant’s point of view. In Accused, viewers discover how an ordinary person got caught up in an extraordinary situation. Ultimately revealing how one wrong turn leads to another until it’s too late to turn back.
THE CHANGEMAKERS
The box set drops on January 1st. There are 7 episodes of 60 minutes each. Each episode of the documentary series will feature a different compelling storyline of people facing challenges in specific locations across the globe. From Black mothers in the United States fighting the life-threatening effects of systemic racism, to Indigenous people in Ecuador strategizing to protect their land from deforestation. Grassroots activists will work to bring global attention to their specific campaigns, with the help of a panel of “super-activists”, who each have extensive experience in advocating for change.
THE GIRL WHO ESCAPED: THE KARA ROBINSON STORY
The film drops on January 5th. While in her best friend’s front yard, 15-year-old Kara Robinson was approached by a man who put a gun to her neck and forced her into his car. He would take her to his appointment where he held her captive and sexually assaulted her for 18 hours. While he was asleep, Kara escaped the restraints and his apartment and was able to lead the police back to the apartment’s exact location and identify her captor, a serial killer who was also responsible for at least three other unsolved homicides.
GEORDIE SHORE: SERIES 24
The first two episodes drop on January 9th. There are 10 episodes of 60 minutes each. A lot has happened since we last saw the Geordies and this series promises lots of exciting new beginnings. Holly’s pregnant, Marnie’s getting married, Charlotte’s a new mum, Sophie’s moving in with her new boyfriend, and James is in love. With so much going on, the cast can’t wait to get together again at Marnie’s wedding, and she has a big surprise for them in store.
When Marnie gets home from working abroad, alongside all the last-minute wedding prep, she starts to plan her elaborate honeymoon in Cypress and guess what…she has invited the whole Geordie family. Twenty-one Geordies, five children and one bun in the oven are all getting together for the ultimate family holiday. Expect some surprise arrivals in the villa, including partners, parents and some old flames. What could go wrong?
JUNE
The film drops on January 17th. Produced by Sandbox Productions, Sony Music Entertainment, and Maxine Productions, JUNE shines an important spotlight on the history of country music and the mark the Carter and Cash families made on the genre before diving into the complex life of the legendary June Carter Cash. The five-time Grammy award-winning singer, comedian, musician, actor and author has opened for Elvis, appeared onscreen with Robert Duvall and Jane Seymour and co-wrote one of the most recognizable country songs of all time, “Ring Of Fire.” Perhaps at times overshadowed by her iconic husband Johnny Cash, she now takes centre stage.
