REACTION TO THE MOVIE

The film premiered at the 80th Venice International Film Festival on September 4 before opening in limited theaters on October 27, 2023. It then expanded wide on November 3. The movie received positive reviews from critics, despite containing none of Elvis’ music on the soundtrack. Instead, Coppola’s husband, Thomas Mars, and his band, Phoenix, were music supervisors on the movie. While Sons of Raphael wrote original music for the film.

LISA MARIE PRESLEY

However, not all the responses to the film were positive. Before her tragic death in January of this year, the couple’s daughter, Lisa Marie Presley expressed her displeasure at the depiction of her father in the film’s screenplay, stating:

“My father only comes across as a predator and manipulative. As his daughter, I don’t read this and see any of my father in this character. I don’t read this and see my mother’s perspective of my father. I read this and see your shockingly vengeful and contemptuous perspective and I don’t understand why?”
