Annlyel takes a detour into Marvel’s What If Multiverse to present her quickfire review of WHAT IF…PETER QUILL ATTACKED EARTH’S MIGHTIEST HEROES?
WHAT IF…? allows its writers to be as creative as possible, and that feels like the primary theme of this second season so far. Instead of simply refurbishing old stories from the MCU with fun new twists, the second season is delving into the endless pot of imagination; concocting truly intriguing stories.
What If…Peter Quill Attacked Earth’s Mightiest Heroes? is a fine example of exactly that. It asks the audience, who know Peter Quill’s story, “What if Yondu had delivered Peter Quill to Ego?.” Building a story around this fascinating idea delivers fans an exciting new Avengers team. The Avengers of 1988. This impressive team of heroes consists of Hank Pym, King T’Chaka, Dr. Bill Foster, Mar-vell, Peggy Carter, and the Winter Soldier. Part of the fun of being an MCU fan is seeing these characters that we have grown to love so much interact in these massive team-up films as they face a powerful foe.

NEW FORMULA
Part of the reason why Phase 4 and Phase 5 of the MCU have been regarded with less enthusiasm is that we haven’t gotten an Avengers film yet. Seeing these characters that have been recently introduced get a chance to save the world on a larger scale with a bunch of different heroes that we’d never expect to see pair up is a huge part of the joy surrounding this franchise. For example, Shang-Chi is the type of character that you’d want to see again, sooner rather than later. Especially in an Avengers-style movie. But there’s a good chance we won’t get to see him again for another couple of years at least. That means he will have not made an appearance in the MCU for FIVE years. That’s a lot of time.

VERDICT
What If…? is reminding the fandom why they love this franchise so much with these first two episodes of the second season. I cannot wait to see the next story.
Marvel’s What If…? is now streaming on Disney Plus with episodes released daily until December 30.
