A bunch of kidnappers get far more than they bargained for when they abduct a not-so-innocent child in Universal Pictures’ Abigail.
It serves them right! Abducting a child is one of the worst crimes there is in itself. But it is poetic justice when one of the children abducted turns out to be the daughter of Count Dracula! That’s the premise of the upcoming Universal Pictures monster horror film Abigail. Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from a screenplay written by Stephen Shields and Guy Busick, the film is a modern-day retelling of the classic 1936 horror movie Dracula’s Daughter.
The movie stars Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton, William Catlett, Kevin Durand, the late Angus Cloud and the young Irish actress Alisha Weir as the title character. The film is scheduled to be released on April 19th after being delayed in production by the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. The first trailer for the film has emerged from the darkness. Grab the garlic as we take our look. *Warning! The trailer contains strong language and violent, gory scenes*
THE PREMISE
Reportedly inspired, in some capacity, by the 1936 Universal film Dracula’s Daughter, the film will focus on a group of kidnappers who come to realize that one of the girls they have abducted is the daughter of Count Dracula. Weir will play one of the kidnap victims, while Barrera will portray one of the kidnappers. Universal has stated that the film will be “a unique take on legendary monster lore. And will represent a fresh, new direction for how to celebrate these classic characters.”
