Life Finds A Way. David Koepp and Steven Spielberg to Reunite For A New Jurassic World Film

Universal Pictures tasks David Koepp with returning to Jurassic World and launching a new Jurassic era in an all-new movie!

The Jurassic World is turning again. After Jurassic World: Dominion seemingly brought the Hollywood dinosaur adventures to an anticlimactic end, Universal Pictures has found a way to breathe new life into the franchise. According to The Hollywood Reporter, an all-new dino adventure is in the works. Ordinarily, this news alone would be enough to have us chipping our way through amber for fresh DNA. But when the studio tasks original Jurassic Park and The Lost World scribe David Koepp with its creation, we take notice.

According to THR’s report, the new feature film has been in the works for some time. So much so that Universal hasn’t ruled out an enthusiastic 2025 release window, But that might be a little too ambitious at this stage.

Jurassic World - Tyrannosaurus Rex

A DINO-SIZED TASK

As of press time, the project has yet to assign a director to bring this monumental movie to the screen. However, franchise legend Frank Marshall is back for another stroll through the park as the producer. Additionally, Steven Spielberg will serve as an executive producer through Amblin Entertainment and maintain his connection to the franchise he launched back in 1993.

The film is being viewed as a “new Jurassic era,” and will make a clean break from the origins of the franchise. Therefore, characters like Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) are not expected to return. Moreover, the legacy characters from the “Park era” are not expected to feature either. So Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and Ian Malcom can finally put their dino-ordeals behind them.

A NEW ERA

That being said, the studio is maintaining the “Jurassic World” moniker hinting that the new movie will connect more with the later sequels over the franchise originators. But what creatures we can expect to see remains to be seen. The report fails to mention the return of Rexy the series’ legendary Tyrannosaurus Rex. Nor does it hint at a return for Owen Grady’s pet Velociraptor Blue. But considering the franchise is moving on without its legacy stars, we should expect Blue to join Owen Grady on greener pastures.

Of course, until the studio opens up about the film we should take this news with a pinch of salt. But if confirmed, Universal is pulling out all the stops to relaunch the franchise with panache. Bringing David Koepp back to oversee the screenplay hints that the series will return to its philosophical roots. And may signal a return to the morality of dinosaur cloning. A plot point that had faded from the latter installments in the franchise. However, the debate was a lynchpin throughout Michael Crichton’s original novels.

DIRECTION

Either way, fans will now be hoping to see a quality director assigned to bring the project home. Could Universal tempt Steven Spielberg back to the hot seat? Will Colin Trevorrow make it third time lucky? All will be revealed in the next few months. In the meantime, fans of the series can sleep safe in their beds knowing that the age of dinosaurs is far from over.
