While investigating the global phenomenon of caste and its dark influence on society, a journalist faces unfathomable personal loss and uncovers the beauty of human resilience.

THE CAST

The film stars Academy Award nominee Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor. And is bolstered by an acclaimed supporting cast, which includes Niecy Nash-Betts. Jon Bernthal, Emily Yancy, Vera Farmiga, Jasmine Cephas Jones. Finn Wittrock, Victoria Pedretti, Nick Offerman. Blair Underwood and Audra McDonald. DuVernay produced the film with Paul Garnes for ARRAY Filmworks.

WORLD PREMIERE

ORIGIN premiered at the 80th Venice Film Festival where it received a nomination for the Golden Lion Award. And then went on to screen at the Toronto International Film Festival in mid-September. The film had a limited qualifying release in the US on December 8th from NEON. Where it brought in the fourth-highest per-screen average of 2023. The film expanded to a wider release in the US on January 19th.
