The begins again. After reinvigorating the franchise with PREY, Dan Trachtenberg is back on the hunt for an all-new futuristic PREDATOR movie. The film, which is currently operating under the working title ‘Badlands’ is a direct sequel to Prey. The film will take place sometime in the future. But like Prey, Trachtenberg will center his new adventure around a strong female lead.
Plot details are a closely guarded secret, known only to a select few inside the hallowed halls of 20th Century Studios. However, just like the previous installment, Trachtenberg is already well into the development of the project. Trachtenberg wrote the story with Patrick Aison, with the latter penning the screenplay. And now, a July start of production is being planned.

Thankfully, this isn’t the only Predator-centric news of the day. According to reports, the studio was so blown away by the success of Prey that a host of new Predator projects are hitting the assembly line. And with Dan Trachtenberg at the center. Whether a long-awaited sequel to PREY is among them is still a mystery. But this news will surely delight fans of the IP everywhere. And rightly so. Prey proved to be a massive success when it debuted on Hulu and Disney+. It set new viewing records for Hulu and was one of the top globally streamed titles on Disney+. Originally, the movie was made with a theatrical release in mind. Sadly, that all fell apart during Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox. But the critical and commercial success of the film has forced the studio into a rethink, and now fans of the IP can look forward to more stalking and hunting on the big screen – where it belongs!

Of course, this is a developing story, and scheduling dates are subject to change. But should Badlands stick to its timeframe, hopefully, fans can look forward to a brand new Predator adventure in cinemas in 2026. And that is reason enough to celebrate.
