Kevin Costner’s all-new epic western takes us back to the wild west. This is Horizon: An American Saga
American history is a colorful saga – one littered with incredible highs and soul-destroying lows. Hollywood was founded on the back of incredible westerns, from Clint Eastwood to Kevin Costner, the genre has seen some incredible actors come to the fore. What’s more, these legendary actors love the rich sandbox so much that they transition into the directors chair.
Clint Eastwood delivered a masterclass in Unforgiven, and Kevin Costner was awarded with an Oscar for Dances With Wolves. So when these titans of the genre step back in time for another spell in the wild west, we take notice.

Enter Horizon: An American Saga – the all-new epic from Kevin Costner. Taking on the directors chair for the first time since Open Range in 2003, the Hollywood legend has set himself a herculean task. His latest offering chronicles the Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West. Specifically the conflict between the Indigenous groups who blessed the land to those who occupied it by force. The film looks to be one of the jewels in Warner Bros’ summer crown. SYNOPSIS
In the great tradition of Warner Bros. Pictures’ iconic Westerns, “Horizon: An American Saga” explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won—and lost—through the blood, sweat and tears of many. Spanning the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Costner’s ambitious cinematic adventure will take audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends and foes all attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America.

It’s safe to assume that Warner Bros and New Line Cinema have a modern day classic on their hands here. Horizon looks exceptional. Costner fans would expect no less, and if the filmmaker can repliate his masterwork on Dances With Wolves; we could be set for something truly special. The film is so grand in scale that the studio has decided to split the adventure into two parts. And both will be playing on the big screen this summer! So, we can all look forward to a summer long vacation back to the old west. And that is an exciting prospect.
Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 opens in theaters on June 28, 2024. Expect Chapter 2 to arrive on August 16, 2024.
