TV Review | Star Wars: The Bad Batch S3:E6/7 (Infiltration And Extraction)

The latest episodes of The Bad Batch weren’t as bad as The Return, but they had their own problems with monotony and a boring storyline.

THE BAD BATCH delivers a two-parter with a few pacing problems, but it felt like a real-life Vietnam escape and extraction mission. The previous episode, “The Return,” was boring because it was predictable. The story revolved around forcing Hunter and Crosshair to work together despite their animosity and tension. It was a dull, cliche adventure, and I’m glad the bandage was ripped off and discarded.

REX RETURNS!

This week’s two-parter showed how Captain Rex built a sort of Clone pre-pseudo-Rebel Alliance. One complete with its own secret base and dynamic freedom fighters. Their goal was to find the location of Mount Tantiss and free the rest of the clone prisoners there. Unfortunately, to make matters worse, the Empire is sending brainwashed clone trooper-turned-assassin to hunt down (but not harm) Omega. The assassins are very much disposable. But when Rex and his men capture one, another is dispatched to eliminate him. While doing what seems to be an unnecessary chore, he stumbles upon Omega and reigns in the lucky streak of luck for the Empire. I dreaded that Omega would be captured again and was pleased they did not go this route.

VERDICT

This episode wasn’t as bad as “The Return,” but it had its own problems with monotony and a boring storyline. It was also very uneventful and, once again, immaterial. The only highlight was the escape from the compromised clone headquarters and trekking across the jungle to the extraction point. It felt almost like a Vietnam movie (as I mentioned earlier). I liked the realistic military vibe. However, nothing else about this episode excited me.

I am waiting for the final season to shift towards more meaningful objectives. I also felt that Omega was too quiet in this episode. Actually, I wanted to hear her talk a little more. I also think the beginning with Senator Tuchi and Singh was unnecessary. But it’s important to show that the clone resistance has allies in high places.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch is streaming exclusively on Disney Plus now.

FORCE FACTS

  1. Data pucks, internal homing beacons, and energy crossbows. I love how the tech of Star Wars is always seemingly so casual despite its sophistication. The characters don’t seem wowed by anything, and everything in the setting is part of the background.

  2. Wolffe makes an appearance at the end, and he thought Rex died when his ship went down on that small moon with Ahsoka on the eve of the Jedi Purge. It’s cool to see how Wolffe is still so loyal to Rex (despite them being on two sides of war) and allows him to leave when Echo arrives at the extraction point.

  3. The Clone Assassin has some cool high-tech armor and other gadget goodies. He has a Heads-Up Display that seems pretty advanced and a voice modulator that makes his voice appear garbled and sinister. He can activate his ship remotely and even has a futuristic-looking combat knife that glows and also resembles something out of Dune.
