Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara return in the long-awaited comedy horror sequel, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice.
It has finally happened! After waiting, asking, and hoping for the past thirty-six years, Betelgeuse is back. Michael Keaton reprises his role as the name in laughter from the Hereafter in director Tim Burton’s long-awaited sequel Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice. Adding to the fun is the also returning Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz and Catherine O’Hara as her mother, Delia Deetz. Newcomers to the sequel include Jenna Ortega as Astrid Deetz, Lydia’s daughter, Monica Bellucci as Betelgeuse’s wife, and Willem Dafoe as a ghost detective. Justin Theroux, Arthur Conti, Burn Gorman, and Filipe Cates have also been cast in the movie in undisclosed roles.
The sequel has been in gestation since 1990. Tim Burton hired Daniel Waters to write a sequel script named Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. However, Keaton, Burton and Walters all moved on to Batman Returns instead. The film has been on and off the slate at Warner Bros ever since, with the smart money saying the sequel would never be made. But now, the sequel is almost here. In other great news, Danny Elfman has returned to score the sequel, giving the film an even better sense of continuity. Finally, the day we’ve been waiting for is here.
