Lionsgate will officially turn Suzanne Collins’ latest book in The Hunger Games series into another blockbuster movie in 2026. Sunrise On The Reaping is coming…
Fans of The Hunger Games were treated to exciting news today! Suzanne Collins is working on a new book that will also be adapted into a movie. This will be Collins’ fifth book set in her dystopian world of Panem—home of The Hunger Games! Read on for all the details you need to know!
SUNRISE ON THE REAPING
Firstly, the book will be released on March 18th, 2025, in just under a year. It will be titled “Sunrise on the Reaping.” We have also been given a few details on the book, which will take place twenty-four years before Katniss took part in The Hunger Games. As the title suggests, the narrative will begin on the morning of the reaping of the fiftieth Hunger Games, also known as the second Quarter Quell.
From that little breadcrumb, fans of the series will know that this was the year that Katniss and Peeta’s mentor, Haymitch Abernathy, won the games. We also understand that the Quarter Quell games always come with a twist. In this particular game, there were double the participants, which meant forty-eight tributes were entered—four from each district. This is sure to be an exciting and harrowing read. I do wonder if Haymitch will be the main POV character of the book.
THE MOVIE
The second big reveal of the day was the follow-up announcement that the book would be getting a movie adaptation. Titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, the film will be released in cinemas on November 20th, 2026. It will be produced by Lionsgate, who have given us five brilliant Hunger Games adaptations, the last of which was released at cinemas in 2023—The Hunger Games: The Ballard of Songbirds and Snakes.
All five films so far have been substantial box-office successes! I’m so excited to experience this world on the big screen again.
LOOKING AHEAD
What a day! The book and the film will surely be a huge success if the past is any indicator. Fans have been craving to see more of the games and their development over the years, and Suzanne Collins and Lionsgate are giving the fans what they want. After all, there is so much of this universe to explore! I cannot wait to hear more information over the coming months. Although I do think it will be sometime before we get casting announcements and any further updates.
