John Magaro joins Michael Fassbender, Jeffrey Wright, and Richard Gere in the Paramount+ political thriller, The Agency.
Paramount+ with SHOWTIME today announced that John Magaro has joined the cast of the espionage political thriller THE AGENCY (formerly The Department) for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME as a series regular. THE AGENCY, currently in production in London, is commissioned by Showtime Studios and produced in association with 101 Studios. George Clooney and Grant Heslov will executive produce through Smokehouse Pictures.

THE PREMISE
The all-new political thriller follows Martian (two-time Academy Award nominee Michael Fassbender), a covert CIA agent. Ordered to abandon his undercover life and return to London Station. When the love he left behind reappears, romance reignites. His profession, true identity, and purpose are in conflict with his emotions. Hurling them both into a deadly game of international intrigue and espionage. Wright will play Henry, the Director of Operations and mentor to Martian.

THE CAST
Magaro will play “Owen,” an Operations Officer and agent handler. He joins 2x Academy Award® nominee Michael Fassbender and previously announced series regulars Jeffrey Wright (“Henry”) Jodie Turner-Smith (“Sami”), Katherine Waterston (“Naomi”) and Richard Gere(“Bosko”).

JOHN MAGARO
John Magaro has spent his career nurturing an impressive body of work that encompasses film. Television, and theatre. He just wrapped production on THE BRIDE for Warner Bros. with Christian Bale. Penelope Cruz and Annette Benning. He will soon appear as the lead alongside Peter Sarsgaard in “SEPTEMBER 5,” set to have its world premiere at this year’s Venice Film Festival. John starred in Celine Song’s “PAST LIVES” alongside Greta Lee. The film earned an Oscar nomination for Best Picture. Picture.
John starred in the film SHOWING UP alongside Michelle Williams in a reunion with Kelly Reichardt. No stranger to the small screen, Magaro most recently appeared opposite Elliot Page in the hit Netflix series THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY. Based on the comic book series of the same name by Gerard Way. He was also seen in the Amazon series JACK RYAN alongside John Krasinski. And starred as the young male lead in Amazon’s CRISIS IN SIX SCENES opposite Rachel Brosnahan. Miley Cyrus and Elaine May.

THE AGENCY
THE AGENCY is a fresh take on the critically acclaimed hit French drama Le Bureau des Légendes (The Bureau internationally). And will debut on demand and on streaming for Paramount+ subscribers with the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME plan, before making its on-air debut. The series will also stream internationally on Paramount+ in the UK, Canada, Australia, and Italy. Germany, Latin America, Brazil and Japan. The series is co-distributed internationally by Paramount Global Content Distribution and Federation Studios.
LE BUREAU
Le Bureau centers on the daily life and missions of agents within France’s principal external security service. It focuses on the “Bureau of Legends,” responsible for training and handling deep-cover agents on long-term missions in areas with French interests. Living under false identities for years, these agents’ missions are to identify and recruit good intelligence sources. “The Bureau – Le Bureau des Légendes” was created by Eric Rochant and is a CANAL+ Création Originale series, produced by TOP – The Originals Productions and Federation Entertainment.

Golden Globe® nominee and multi-BAFTA® winner Joe Wright (Pride and Prejudice, The Darkest Hour and The Atonement) will direct and executive produce the new drama series. Tony®Award-winning writer Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth (Ford v Ferrari, Edge of Tomorrow) will executive produce and write all ten episodes.
