Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi (The Clone Wars) Review

“The Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi from The Clone Wars is an amazing figure with the best headsculpt! Plus, it also comes with some cool accessories. It’s a must-have.”

The highly anticipated Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi figure in his iconic Clone Wars armor has finally been released to the delight of fans. This long-awaited figure has generated a lot of excitement among collectors. Let’s look closer to see if it lives up to the anticipation.

THE BOX AND ACCESSORIES

This is your usual Star Wars box with the promotional picture of the figure and the Star Wars logo. For figures from The Clone Wars, you get a blue and yellow colored strip featuring two additional photos of the figure.

You get plenty of accessories with this one. Hot Toys was inspired by the original Hasbro figure released for The Clone Wars film and the Clone Wars 2D series. Indeed, they included both the clone helmet and the cape. They weren’t necessary but are still cool to get as they give the figure more possibilities for display.

The display base is the standard Star Wars interior base. It’s nice, but I would have loved a Christophsis-themed base for this Obi-Wan. That would have been great! Then, he comes with six hands – two hands to hold the lightsaber, two different gesture hands, one hand to hold the macrobinoculars, and one hand to recreate the classic Obi-Wan pose. Since it’s a recent figure, he has the USB-powered LED lightsaber hilt; all you need for it to work is a USB-C cable, a USB plug socket, or a power bank. The power block can be attached to the figure or the stand. There is also the standard hilt. It’s the same sculpt as the hilt from the Revenge of the Sith figure. But it’s not the same paint app; this one is a lot shinier. As usual, with lightsabers, you have an action and standard blades.

ACCESSORIES

The figure also comes with a holocaster and Anakin’s hologram. However, that hologram features Anakin with the cape, which he never had in The Clone Wars; it was only an accessory Hot Toys had included with the figure. It’s just a hologram, but they should have got this part accurate. Like the Revenge of the Sith figure, Obi-Wan also has his macrobinoculars. It’s the same paint app.

Finally, let’s talk about the helmet and the cape. The helmet is a Cody phase I helmet but entirely painted in white. It’s a lovely sculpture. The cape works with magnets and has wires inside, which means you can adjust it for action poses, and that’s pretty cool!

THE FIGURE

Hot Toys has beautifully recreated Obi-Wan’s Clone Wars armor. They didn’t simply re-use previous clone armor parts but sculpted new pieces to get an accurate look. It’s a great figure. The knee armor is a separate piece, so you can adjust it depending on how you pose your figure. It’s the same with the armor parts on the arms, just like the clone figures. The armor has excellent weathering; it’s not too much, just enough to look good without feeling battle-damaged.

The tunic has wires inside to adjust it for action poses. Wires inside tunics and capes make your action poses feel more realistic and epic. Only the belt has pleather, but you can do nothing about that except ensure your collection is not in an environment with high humidity.

THE HEADSCULPT

This is a brand new headsculpt, and it’s the one with the best likeness of Ewan McGregor so far! It’s amazing. The hairsculpt is spot on as well. And yes, it has a separate rolling eyeball feature. The expression with the mouth slightly open feels so like Obi-Wan. Seeing this headsculpt makes me want a Revenge of the Sith Obi-Wan 2.0 figure. And you know it’s possible with the 20th anniversary coming next year!
