NEW CAST

KATIE LEUNG

Katie Leung (she/her) (The Peripheral) has been cast as Lady Araminta Gun. Twice married and twice widowed, Araminta has two girls debuting on the marriage mart this season. And is feeling the pressure to get at least one of them married off. Fabulous, discerning, and blunt, Araminta does not respond well when anything. Or anyone threatens her standing in society.

Katie’s forthcoming credits include the BBC One thriller Nightsleeper. Currently, she can be seen in Amazon sci-fi The Peripheral alongside Chloe Moretz, from the makers of Westworld. She has recently appeared in the second season of Wheel of Time for Amazon. And in the Paramount series Chemistry of Death alongside Harry Treadaway. Katie also stars in the BBC/ Alibi series Annika alongside Nicola Walker. And her further recent leading TV credits include Chimerica (Channel 4). One Child (BBC2) and Strangers opposite John Simm (BBC/ Amazon).

She played Jackie Chan’s daughter in the feature film The Foreigner. She is also well known for her role as Cho Chang in Warner Bros’ Harry Potter films. Katie trained at the Royal Conservatoire in Scotland. She was announced as a BAFTA Breakthrough Brit for 2014. On stage, Katie has most recently performed in Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’s play The Comeuppance at London’s Almeida Theatre. Her further leading stage credits include White Pearl (Royal Court). Snow in Midsummer (RSC). The World of Extreme Happiness (National Theatre). And Wild Swans (Young Vic).

MICHELLE MAO

Michelle Mao (she/her) (A Big Bold Beautiful Journey) has been cast as Rosamund Li. Beautiful, vain, and eager to please her mother, Rosamund is Araminta’s eldest daughter and most prized possession. Rosamund sets her sights on Benedict Bridgerton this season and is determined to get what she wants.

Michelle Mao was born in Tennessee and raised between Hong Kong and Beijing. Michelle discovered her love for theatre while attending boarding school in the UK. She further developed her passion in San Francisco’s vibrant theatre scene while earning her undergraduate degree at UC Berkeley. She also received her Masters at Tsinghua University, as part of the Schwarzman Scholars Program. Michelle soon landed roles in Netflix’s Metal Lords for producers D.B. Weiss and David Benioff. And Apple TV+’s Surfside Girls. Her career continued to flourish with roles in Disney+’s Goosebumps and the CW’s Kung Fu. She most recently starred in the indie short, My Nights Glow Yellow, as part of the Rising Voices program for Lena Waithe’s company, Hillman Grad. The short premiered at both Tribeca and Toronto Film Festivals.

Next, Michelle will be featured in Plan B’s Preparation for the Next Life, directed by Bing Liu. And in the film A Big, Bold, Beautiful Journey, directed by Kogonada and starring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell. Through her performances, Michelle seeks to shine a light on the experiences of the Asian diaspora. Bringing both authenticity and depth to her performances.

ISABELLA WEI

Isabella Wei (she/her) (1899) has been cast as Posy Li. Rosamund’s younger sister, the much kinder Posy is also debuting this year. But her mother rarely puts the spotlight on Posy, as her chatty, overly friendly demeanour often has her putting her foot in her mouth.

Isabella’s breakthrough role was as the mysterious Ling Yi in Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese’s Netflix series 1899. Since then Isabella has worked on back-to-back projects from creators such as Rupert Sanders in this summer’s hit remake of THE CROW. And directors Audrey Diwan and Calif Chong. This Christmas will see her star alongside Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw in Joe Barton’s BLACK DOVES, also for Netflix. Isabella is based between London and Hong Kong and speaks fluent English, Mandarin and Cantonese. She is repped by Chloë Burrows at Benchmark Management.
