Hello there! Dive into our review of the Hot Toys Obi-Wan Kenobi figure from the Disney+ series and find out if it’s a worthy addition to your Star Wars collection.
After two long years, the Obi-Wan Kenobi figure from the Disney+ limited series has finally arrived! But was it worth the wait? Join us as we take a closer look and say hello there to everyone’s beloved Jedi Master.
THE BOX

This looks like your usual Star Wars collectibles box on the outside – a black box with a promotional picture of the figure and the Star Wars logo. For figures from the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, you get a red colored strip with two additional photos of the figure. But it’s when you remove this part of the box that it gets interesting. This is a DX. So, you get the fancy box with beautiful artwork featuring the Obi-Wan figure with Darth Vader and the four Inquisitors. Ironically, Hot Toys keeps featuring the Fifth Brother and the Fourth Sister on the boxes, but they haven’t announced these two figures yet. Maybe it’s a sign that they will, or it’s just Hot Toys being their usual self. For people who got the special edition, you will also have a Sideshow Exclusive sticker on the box if you got your figure from them. For people in Asia, you’ll have the Hot Toys exclusive sticker.
ACCESSORIES

In terms of accessories, you get everything you need to recreate all the crucial scenes from the series. The stand is the same one you get with Darth Vader, except this one has an additional rock on it. It’s a pretty good base. I always prefer getting diorama bases like these than just a simple base. And if that’s not enough, you can also attach these rocks to recreate the moment Obi-Wan uses the Force during his fight against Darth Vader. How cool is that? Be careful; the stand is a waist grabber rather than the usual crotch grabber. The waist grabber stands can damage your figures.
Then, he has eight hands – two hands to hold the lightsaber, one hand to hold the macrobinoculars or L0-LA, two Force hands, one gesture hand that can hold the lightsaber, one open hand, and one hand to recreate Obi-Wan’s iconic pose. He has his lightsaber, which came with The Clone Wars Obi-Wan figure. It’s shiny and well-sculpted. Just like that figure, you also get the USB-powered saber too. You can use the sabers with a standard blade or an action blade. Like Anakin in Attack of the Clones, Obi-Wan has a sleeveless Jedi robe. It has wires inside so you can adjust it for action poses.
BLASTER PISTOL
Moreover, he has his blaster pistol from the series. It’s a small but highly detailed and painted dark gray except for two light silver paint parts. Microbinoculars are becoming a classic accessory for Obi-Wan Kenobi figures. It’s the same one we got before. We’ve gotten plenty of holograms in the past, but this time, it’s a new one that comes with the comlink – Bail Organa. I do hope that one day, we’ll get a proper figure of Bail. The 20th anniversary of Revenge of the Sith is coming next year; who knows? Finally, you get L0-LA, Leia’s droid. It’s such a cute accessory to include; everyone loves this little droid! If you got the special edition, there is something else – a box with a piece of fabric and Anakin’s hilt. The hilt is a re-use of previous figures. Both the paint and the sculpture make the box feel like wood.
THE FIGURE

Obi-Wan wears a Jedi outfit in his series, but it’s not his usual color. This one is grey with brown pants. It’s a nice change from his everyday outfit. This is not your usual Jedi boots. They’re made entirely of plastic, but there are two different textures. One tries to recreate leather, and the other is just supposed to be fabric. Surprisingly, they didn’t go with cloth, pleather, plastic, or fabric. At this point, Hot Toys does a great job recreating the leather texture with plastic. That’s good for us collectors because we don’t have to worry about how fast it will degrade. However, the plastic doesn’t look like fabric, so the white part does look a bit off compared to the rest of the outfit.
The only part of the outfit featuring pleather is the belt. It’s not your usual Jedi belt; the buckle is different, and it’s a longer one. But the most significant difference is the holster. You don’t see that on Jedi belts. As usual with holsters, this one works with a magnet, and inserting the blaster is easy.
Because this outfit is mainly made of fabric, you have an excellent articulation range. With the sleeveless robe, he has a hermit vibe, which is kind of who he is. Both looks are great. Considering the display base you get, I will display him using the Force when he lifts the rocks. It’s a classic scene!
THE HEADSCULPT

When he was initially revealed, there was some backlash concerning the headsculpt. In the promotional pictures, he looked good, but there was something off. Then, at Tokyo Comic-Con, they displayed an updated version of the sculpt that was a lot better! Since then, we had no news of an update or anything. When the figure was released, we saw he had another update. The final product is fantastic. It was worth the wait. It looks like Ewan McGregor. That’s Obi-Wan here. I love the slightly opened mouth, and the hairsculpting is quite impressive. The best Obi-Wan headsculpt remains in The Clone Wars, but this one is a close second. And yes, he has the separate rolling eyeballs feature. It has become the new standard on Hot Toys figures.
