Exciting news for Star Wars fans! Simon Kinberg to write a new trilogy of films for Lucasfilm, bringing the epic adventures back to the big screen.
After much speculation, Simon Kinberg appears to have confirmed that he has been given the green light to write a new trilogy of Star Wars films for Lucasfilm. Initially rumored to be Episodes 10, 11, and 12, the writer and producer will take the lead as the creative force behind this fresh trilogy aimed at bringing the epic adventures of the galaxy far, far away back to the big screen. Kinberg played a crucial role in the team that brought us the acclaimed animated series STAR WARS: REBELS. Furthermore, he was a key consultant for THE FORCE AWAKENS, contributing significantly to its development.
While this news may be a welcome development for some, it’s important to remember that Kinberg was behind two of the most controversial X-Men films from the Fox era. He co-wrote X-Men: The Last Stand in 2006 and took the helm for the poorly received X-Men: Dark Phoenix in 2019.
Lucasfilm has closed a deal with Simon Kinberg to develop a trilogy of Star Wars films. Kinberg will write the trio and produce them with Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy.
Kinberg previously worked with Lucasfilm in co-creating with Dave Filoni and Carrie Beck the Emmy-nominated animated series Star Wars Rebels that ran for four seasons from 2014-2018. He was also a consultant on Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, the J.J. Abrams-directed film that revived the franchise in 2015.
RELEASE
Regardless of how you feel about Kinberg’s X-Men movies, the writer/director has a proven track record with Lucasfilm. With his familiarity with the source material, Kinberg is a solid choice by the studio to cement the saga’s return to the big screen. After all, we already have new big-screen adventures from Jon Favreau, James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, and Dave Filoni in the pipeline. Throw in a new trilogy from Kinberg, and this represents an all-out assault on the big-screen landscape, and that is extremely exciting.
It is worth noting that Lucasfilm has not officially confirmed the appointment. However, Simon Kinberg has addressed the news on Instagram, lending credibility to the rumors. We can expect further announcements from the studio during Disney’s D23 Expo in Brazil this weekend.
