MUBI, the global distributor, streaming service, and production company, is to announce that Andrea Arnold’s latest feature film, Bird (known for American Honey, Fish Tank, and Cow), will be available for exclusive streaming on MUBI starting 23 December.
Bird marks the long-awaited return to fiction storytelling from Academy-Award®-winner Andrea Arnold (American Honey, Fish Tank). This tender, striking and extraordinarily surprising coming-of-age fable about marginalised life in the fringes of contemporary society, features remarkable performances from Barry Keoghan (Saltburn). Franz Rogowski (Passages), and astounding newcomer Nykiya Adams as the latest in the filmmaker’s canon of indelible heroines.
PREMISE
12-year-old Bailey (Adams) lives with her devoted but chaotic single dad, Bug (Keoghan). And wayward brother Hunter (Jason Buda) in a squat in Gravesend, north Kent. As Bailey approaches puberty and seeks attention and adventure, her fractured home life undergoes a transformation upon her encounter with Bird (Rogowski). A mysterious stranger on a journey of his own.
WORLD PREMIERE
Bird received its World Premiere in Competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. It was produced by House Productions (The Iron Claw The Wonder) and filmed in the, specifically in the Kent area. The financiers include BBC Film, the BFI which awards National Lottery funding), Pink Promise, FirstGen, and Access Entertainment.
Our Lead Editor, Phil Roberts, watched the film at the BFI London Film Festival and had a great time. In his reactions on social media, he mentioned, “Andrea Arnold’s Bird is a fascinating take on family life with hints of adventure and fantasy. Nykiya Adamas and Barry Keoghan lead the film with great performances that heighten the drama on screen. With some refreshing fantasy elements, the film is a compelling watch”

Bird will be available to stream exclusively on MUBI from December 23rd.
