Get ready for Lee Cronin’s take on The Mummy! Discover the details of an all-new horror project that’s set to terrify a whole new generation of fans.
A new interpretation of The Mummy is emerging from the Sarcophagus. News broke back in June that Lee Cronin (Evil Dead Rise) was developing a new horror for Atomic Monster, Blumhouse Productions, and New Line Cinema. But until now, the project has remained a closely guarded secret. Well, now we can officially confirm that the project is an all-new take on the concept of The Mummy! That’s right, Universal’s beloved monster is coming back to terrify an all-new generation of fans. However, it should be noted that Cronin’s vision has nothing to do with the classic Universal horror property.
This version of The Mummy may be entirely separate from Universal’s Mummy projects. After all, Universal is already developing multiple iterations of its legendary monster. However, Cronin’s collaborators at Atomic Monster and Blumhouse Production have already tackled The Invisible Man and the new version of Wolf Man for Universal, which hits cinemas in January. At the same time, Atomic Monster is actively involved in James Wan’s modern retelling of Creature From The Black Lagoon.

MONSTERS UNITE
After his chilling take on the Evil Dead franchise, the notion of Cronin bringing a new iteration of The Mummy to life is an enticing prospect. One that will resonate with legions of horror fans. But what will his new take on the property look like? The director is quoted by THR as saying “This will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before. I’m digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening.”
The title of Cronin’s new Mummy movie is still under wraps, known only to a select few. We know that Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are teaming up to finance it. Horror icon James Wan is on board as a producer, working alongside Jason Blum and John Keville. Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and Macdara Kelleher are serving as executive producers, while Alayna Glasthal is keeping an eye on everything for Atomic Monster.
The Mummy will bring a new breed of terror to cinemas on April 17, 2026.
