By the power of Grayskull! Amazon has shared our first look at Nicholas Galitzine’s He-Man in the live-action adaptation of Masters of the Universe. The movie has been in developmental hell for some time, but with Amazon MGM taking charge of the rights and Travis Knight taking the director’s chair, the film is finally moving along the assembly line. Recently, Jared Leto was cast as He-Man’s arch-nemesis, Skeletor, and today, we finally have our first look at Eternia’s heroic defender.

In the image, Nicholas Galitzine slips into the iconic He-Man suit. He wields the Sword of Power bestowed upon him by the Sorceress, who transforms him into the defender of Eternia. Check out the image below.

THE CAST OF ETERNIA

The cast of Masters of the Universe features an impressive array of talent. In addition to Galitzine and Leto, the film showcases the remarkable performances of Camila Mendes as Teela, Idris Elba as Man-at-Arms (also known as Duncan), and Alison Brie as Skeletor’s loyal second-in-command, Evil-Lyn. Morena Baccarin takes on the role of The Sorceress, while Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson portrays Malcolm, better known as Fisto. The lineup also includes Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Hafthor Bjornsson as Goat Man, and Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops. Rounding out the cast, James Purefoy and Charlotte Riley portray He-Man’s parents, King Randor and Queen Marlena.

THE STORY

The story follows ten-year-old Prince Adam, who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword—the only link to his home on Eternia. After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor. But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man, the most powerful man in the Universe.

The film was previously in the Netflix developmental machine with a succession of writers and directors attached to bring the project to life. But the streamer could never get the project off the ground. Now, after the rights fell into the lap of Amazon MGM Studios, the film is finally back on track with Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings) set to direct from a script by Chris Butler, with initial drafts penned by David Callaham, and Aaron & Adam Nee.

RELEASE

This is incredible news. The live-action Masters of the Universe movie is the newest big project for Jared Leto. He was well-known for portraying Joker in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad before jumping into the Marvel Universe as Michael Morbius. Now, he’s also joining Disney with Tron. In the upcoming Tron: Ares, he’s playing the lead role of a super advanced program that gets sent from the digital world into the real one on a risky mission. But with He-Man finally suiting up, hopefully, we will be only a few short weeks away from getting our first look at the actor in his Skeletor makeup.

Masters of the Universe will be rewarded with a theatrical release and premiere on June 5, 2026.
