The first trailer for TRON: Ares, starring Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, and Gillian Anderson, has arrived from The Grid. Enter the digital frontier and get your first look!
Greetings programs. After what has seemed like a long reboot process, Disney has shared the first trailer for Joachim Rønning’s TRON: Ares. The long-awaited sequel/reboot to TRON: Legacy has been in developmental hell since its initial announcement. But with those issues finally resolved, the film is moving along the assembly line at pace. The film is set to take Ares (Jared Leto), a highly sophisticated program sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission.
As the film’s October release date approaches, Disney presented an exclusive first look at the ambitious project during CinemaCon. Unfortunately, the footage was only available to attendees, frustrating fans of the franchise. Fortunately, all of that has changed today. The first trailer for the film has been released, taking us back into The Grid and reuniting us with Kevin Flynn as the digital frontier intersects with the real world. The trailer features explosive footage of light cycles racing through downtown Los Angeles and a Recognizer battling fighter planes. But before we get derezzed, check out the footage below.
SYNOPSIS
“TRON: Ares follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings.”
Although the trailer and synopsis offer some hints about what we can expect in the sequel, Disney is keeping most details under wraps. Only a select few with access to the Master Control Program know the specifics of the plot. But with Jeff Bridges returning as Kevin Flynn and Jared Leto exploring the digital realm outside The Grid, TRON: Ares promises to be another exciting addition to the franchise.
One major detraction, however, is the news that original Tron star Bruce Boxleitner is not involved in the project. The actor famously left the franchise when Disney canceled the original sequel to TRON: Legacy, and sadly, he isn’t listed among the cast. But now, with Bridges confirmed to appear, speculation will mount about the involvement of his son, Sam, played by Garrett Hedlund. As will the future of Quorra, played by Olivia Wilde.

THE CAST
Until Disney clarifies its plans, speculation will persist. In the meantime, a talented new cast will lead the charge against artificial intelligence in the film TRON: Ares. Jared Leto heads the cast, which also includes Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, and Gillian Anderson. The film’s producers are Sean Bailey, Jeffrey Silver, Justin Springer, Jared Leto, Emma Ludbrook, and Steven Lisberger, with Russell Allen serving as the executive producer.
In addition to the glorious new trailer, the studio also shared the first poster for the film. Check it out below.

RELEASE
Disney has scheduled the film’s release for October 10, 2025. The studio recently announced that Nine Inch Nails will compose the soundtrack. Daft Punk famously created a sensational and immersive score for TRON: Legacy, so fans hope Nine Inch Nails can deliver a soundtrack of equal brilliance. Regardless, we can all look forward to another journey into the Grid with TRON, which is an exciting prospect in itself.
TRON: ARES takes us back to the Grid on October 1oth, 2025.
