Joachim Trier's Film, Sentimental Value, Is Aquired By MUBI Ahead Of Its World Premiere At The Cannes Film Festival

Ahead of its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value is acquired by MUBI for release in some world markets.

MUBI, the global distributor, streaming service and production company, has acquired all rights to Joachim Trier’s latest feature film, Sentimental Value. It will premiere in competition at the 78th Cannes Film Festival. MUBI has taken all rights in the UK, Ireland, Latin America, Turkey and India. Theatrical release plans will be announced in the coming months. MK2 Films is handling sales for all other territories.

THE SECOND TIME MUBI HAS WORKED WITH JOACHIM TRIER

This marks the second time MUBI has worked with Trier. Having distributed his last feature film, The Worst Person in the World, in the UK, Ireland, India and Turkey. It received two Academy Award® nominations for International Feature and Original Screenplay. Two BAFTA Film Award nominations for Leading Actress for Renate Reinsve and Film not in the English Language, amongst others.

Joachim Trier’s sixth film is an intimate and moving exploration of family, memories, and the reconciliatory power of art.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Norwegian director and screenwriter Joachim Trier has gained international praise and numerous awards. Ever since his first feature films. Reprise (2006), Oslo, August 31st (2011), which premiered at the Festival de Cannes in Un Certain Regard. Louder Than Bombs (2015), selected in Competition. Thelma (2017) and The Worst Person in the World (2021), all co-written with Eskil Vogt, were invited to and won awards at film festivals such as Sundance. Toronto, Karlovy Vary, Gothenburg, Milan, and Istanbul.

His previous feature, The Worst Person in The World, premiered in Competition at the 2021 Festival de Cannes. Where lead actress Renate Reinsve brought home the Award for Best Actress. The film was later nominated for two Academy Awards (Best Original Screenplay and Best International Feature). As well as BAFTA for Best Actress and Best International Feature.

Joachim Trier’s sixth feature film is Sentimental Value. Starring Renate Reinsve, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, Stellan Skarsgård and Elle Fanning.

BEHIND THE CAMERAS

The film is produced by Maria Ekerhovd for Mer Film and Andrea Berentsen Ottmar for Eye Eye Pictures in Norway. As a Norwegian, French, German, Danish, and Swedish co-production, the co-producers are Nathanael Karmitz for MK Productions and Juliette Schrameck for Lumen Production in France; Janine Jackowski and Jonas Dornbach for Komplizen Film in Germany; Sisse Graum Jørgensen for Zentropa in Denmark and Lizette Jonjic for Zentropa Sweden, as well as Film i Väst, Oslo Filmfond and Mediefondet Zefyr. The film is also backed by BBC Film in the UK, with Eva Yates as executive producer. As well as Alas Film and Storyline.

Sentimental Value is financed with the support of several esteemed institutions, including the Norwegian Film Institute, the Swedish Film Institute, the Danish Film Institute, the French National Center of Cinema Film (CNC), Arte Grand Accord, Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg, FFA, Eurimages, Région Normandie and Nordisk Film og TV-fond.
