The next Star Wars theatrical film to go into production has been announced at Star Wars Celebration Japan. Get ready for Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter.
Star Wars Celebration is currently in full swing, and exciting announcements are already making waves. Just minutes into the opening panel, the title of Shawn Levy’s upcoming Star Wars movie was revealed. Starring Ryan Gosling in the lead role, the film is titled “Star Wars: Starfighter.”
Set approximately five years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Gosling will play a brand-new character teased by the actor’s appearance on stage.

Levy, who recently directed and produced Marvel’s hit Deadpool & Wolverine, made a surprise appearance during The Mandalorian and Grogu panel today, joining Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and chief creative officer Dave Filoni on stage to confirm his project for the live audience at Star Wars Celebration Japan.
NEW PROJECTS
Levy’s movie is the first of many new projects speeding our way from Lucasfilm. These include films by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, Taika Waititi, and a new trilogy by Simon Kinberg.
What a way to kickstart the festivities at Star Wars Celebration. If this reveal is the first of many, the event promises to be a landmark convention. Welcome to the Star Wars galaxy, Ryan and Shawn. Exciting times indeed!
