A Break Down Of 'The Mandalorian And Grogu' Panel At Star Wars: Celebration

The Mandalorian and Grogu premieres exclusive footage at Star Wars Celebration Japan!

Taking to the stage at Star Wars Celebration Japan, Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau blew the crowds away by dropping an exclusive sneak peek for the hotly anticipated film that will bring The Mandalorian and Grogu to the big screen. The film is set to release on May 22, 2026.

THE PANEL

During the panel, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni revealed the first official images of The Mandalorian and Grogu film. This gave us our first look at Sigourney Weaver’s character, who plays an officer pilot of the New Republic. The images showed her in a pilot outfit on the Adelphi base, seen in season 3 of the series. She was also accompanied by the BD-X droids introduced at the Disney Parks. Other images showed Pedro Pascal returning under the armor. As Favreau explained, this film is shot for the big screen, so it has to be impressive. As such, he revealed that they built an entire set of the interior of an imperial AT-AT! Favreau and Filoni teased that this is going to be a great Star Wars adventure, and the footage shown on Friday seems to indicate that.

During the panel, Sigourney Weaver revealed that it was Jon Favreau who contacted her to offer her a role. She hadn’t watched the series yet, but after watching it, she fell in love with Grogu. She had to stay professional when filming her scenes with him, and then she could get all excited to be in the same room as him.

EXCLUSIVE FOOTAGE

Since we are still more than a year away from the film’s release, Jon Favreau showed footage only to the audience present at Star Wars Celebration. This footage was a small clip followed by a sizzle reel. It featured some scenes from the sizzle reel shown at Disney’s D23 Expo back in August, but it was mostly new footage.

The clip took place inside an AT-AT as the Mandalorian took it by storm, killing one by one the snowtroopers as he got closer to the cockpit. Then, the sizzle reel featured several scenes on that snow planet, including more scenes of Din Djarin riding an AT-RT and blowing up one of the AT-ATs. That AT-AT fell down a ravine. On a side note, these were not the AT-ATs from The Empire Strikes Back, but the ones seen in Star Wars Rebels and Jedi: Fallen Order. This is an earlier iteration of the vehicle.

Furthermore, it featured the Mandalorian and Grogu in different new locations. There were also brief scenes featuring Sigourney Weaver’s character in a New Republic officer uniform. She wasn’t exactly pleased with Din’s results, calling his work “messy, very messy.” She was the one hiring his services on some missions. Additionally, footage of Zeb and Din was captured on the Adelphi base. The sizzle reel ended with a jacked Rotta the Hutt in an arena with Din Djarin and Grogu watching him. Yes, Grogu had several cute moments.
