James Gunn confirms that Milly Alcock’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow movie is being retitled to Supergirl.
Look up, DC fans, because Supergirl is hot on the heels of the Man of Steel. Although James Gunn’s new-look Superman is swooping into cinemas on July 11th, DC fans are already looking ahead to the new superhero to swoop in from Metropolis. In recent weeks, the DC head honcho has been referring to Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow as simply Supergirl. This prompted fans to speculate that the title was about to be changed. Of course, Superman was originally titled Superman: Legacy, but it underwent a sudden rebrand. So, fans had begun to expect something similar for the Girl of Steel.

Today, that speculation received a massive boost in credibility. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Gunn confirmed the title change. He said, “I think it’s just called Supergirl now.“
When asked about the production of Supergirl, Gunn said, “I mean at the very beginning, but I’ve been pretty busy, as you might imagine. I was really involved at the script stage, but then [director] Craig [Gillespie] has just been such a great partner. He’s just been doing his thing. You never know how something cuts together, but right now it looks amazing. It’s really cool stuff.“
WOMAN OF TOMORROW
The film is inspired by the comic series “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely. In this series, a young alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll seeks out Supergirl for help on a dangerous mission after her father is murdered and the culprit remains at large. Driven by a desire for revenge, Ruthye insists that if Supergirl doesn’t assist her, she will take matters into her own hands. She insists on doing this regardless of the consequences.

CAST & CREW
Milly Alcock, known for her role in House of the Dragon, stars as Kara Zor-El in Supergirl. The cast also includes Eve Ridley from 3 Body Problem as Ruthye. Matthias Schoenaerts from Rust and Bone plays Krem of the Yellow Hill. David Krumholtz from Oppenheimer takes the role of Zor-El. Emily Beecham from 1899 features as Alura, and Jason Momoa plays Lobo, a character he has been eager to portray for years.
RELEASE
This is incredibly exciting, especially following hot on the heels of the new Superman trailer. Under James Gunn, DC Studios appears to be laying the foundations for a richly developed new universe, and with Superman and Supergirl leading the charge, the future of the DCU looks to be in safe hands.
