London was SMURF-ified as our favourite blue friends took over the city ahead of the release of SMURFS on July 18. To celebrate the upcoming release of the film, London has been swept up in a wave of blue joy as everyone’s favourite little blue heroes appeared across the city. Spreading smiles, mischief, and a whole lot of Smurf-tastic fun!

A DELIGHTFUL SURPRISE
A delightful surprise awaited Londoners as 700 figurines – each 20cm tall, just like the real thing – were spotted exploring the city. From the majestic St Paul’s Cathedral to the lively Eros Statue at Piccadilly Circus, the figurines made their way across iconic landmarks before gathering in Trafalgar Square and Great George Street (Parliament Square), right outside the towering Big Ben.

ICE CREAM
With their own brand of summer fun, a branded ice-cream van, located at
Westfield Stratford offered SMURF-tastic ice-creams, served in blue cones and topped with a wafer in the shape of the iconic character’s hat, for families enjoying the sunshine.

SPECIAL SCREENING
The fun continued at Cineworld Leicester Square, where UK voice talent Rylan Clark (Vanity Smurf) and Jon Richardson (Grouchy Smurf) attended a special screening which was full of surprises, including ice-cream, a bakery, Smurfette’s disco, and the stars met the blue icons themselves.

RAILWAYS
Even the railways joined the celebration! Lumo (an all-electric rail service), with the help of Rylan Clark, unveiled an eye-catching SMURFS-branded train at a special event at London’s King’s Cross station. VIP guests travelled on the newly designed train to Edinburgh for a Smurfs-themed day out in Scotland.

PREMISE
