HBO Max has revealed our first look at Nick Frost’s Hagrid in the new Harry Potter series.
Just twenty-four hours after HBO Max confirmed that production on the new Harry Potter series was officially underway, the studio has shared our first look at Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. Yesterday, the studio provided our first look at Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, and now our new Hagrid is preparing to use his magic. Frost takes over from the legendary Robbie Coltrane, who sadly passed away in 2022. But if fans had any doubts about Frost’s look for the character, we can put them to bed now because the studio has dropped our first look at the actor in character. Check it out below.
A NEW CAST
For this exciting new chapter in the Wizarding World, Warner Bros has assembled a dynamic cast. The studio has enlisted both fresh young talent and seasoned veterans to bring this adventure to life.
The cast features newcomers Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout, who play Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley, respectively. John Lithgow portrays Dumbledore, while Nick Frost takes on the role of Hagrid. Janet McTeer plays Minerva McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu appears as Severus Snape. Luke Thallon stars as Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse portrays Argus Filch. Lox Pratt plays Draco Malfoy, with Johnny Flynn as his father, Lucius Malfoy. Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby take on the roles of Petunia Dursley and Vernon Dursley, respectively, while Katherine Parkinson plays Molly Weasley.
In the role of Minister for Magic, Cornelius Fudge, we have Bertie Carvel. The cast includes newcomers Leo Earley, Alessia Leoni, and Sienna Moosah as Hogwarts students Seamus Finnigan, Parvati Patil, and Lavender Brown, respectively. Additionally, new cast members include Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander.
SYNOPSIS
“The franchise follows the life of a young wizard, the titular Harry Potter, whose parents died under mysterious circumstances when he was very young. He was forced to live a life of misery and servitude to his aunt and uncle and their awful son before he was freed from his gilded cage when Hagrid extended an invitation that changed his life forever. The adventure begins as Harry and his magical friends Ron and Hermoine become students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, who come of age in a time of extreme turmoil where the threat of war looms close.”

Despite the discourse online regarding the need for a Harry Potter reboot, one cannot help but be intrigued by this bold new chapter. While many will speculate about the need for a reboot of the franchise so soon, others will be relishing the opportunity to see J.K. Rowling’s novels brought to life in greater detail. Although the big-screen outings were thoroughly enjoyable, large parts of the books were omitted due to pacing and budget constraints. So, fans can look forward to their favorite adventures coming to life over several hours, rather than the customary two, and that is an exciting prospect.
No matter which side of the fence you pitch your tent, the series will effortlessly shoot straight to the top of every viewer’s watchlist, and we will be there with our wands in hand, ready to board the Hogwarts Express. According to the studio, the series will premiere on HBO Max in the US and will also be available in upcoming launch markets, Germany, Italy, and the UK. Each season of the show is expected to be devoted to one of J.K. Rowling’s novels, meaning fans can look forward to seven seasons of Harry Potter adventures.
