James Gunn has released the first poster for DC’s Supergirl, starring Milly Alcock. Check it out here.
With Superman now swooping into cinemas across the globe, James Gunn has released the first poster for DC’s next tentpole project, Supergirl. We’ve known for a while that Milly Alcock has been cast as the new Girl of Steel, but until her impromptu cameo in her cousin’s big-screen outing, little was known about her new take on the character.
SPOILERS AHEAD!
By now, the majority of fans around the world know that a drunken Supergirl crash-lands into the Fortress of Solitude at the end of James Gunn’s blockbuster. Her appearance sparked a tidal wave of chatter online, with most fans applauding this fresh take on the character. However, perhaps the most notable aspect was her iconic costume. DC Studios has taken the traditional approach to the outfit and stylized the suit to be almost identical to her cousins. Until now, the costume has only been viewable on the cinema screen. However, the poster has now revealed the glorious costume for all to see.
In addition to the costume, the poster continues to focus on her less-than-innocent upbringing and mocks Superman’s “Look Up” marketing slogan by spraying “Out” over “Up”! Check it out below.

SYNOPSIS
So far, the logline for Supergirl reads:
While celebrating her 21st birthday, Kara Zor-El travels across the galaxy with her dog Krypto, during which she meets the young Ruthye Marye Knoll and goes on a “murderous quest for revenge”
CAST & CREW
The film stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El / Supergirl, alongside Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Supergirl’s father, and Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze, Supergirl’s mother. Former Aquaman star Jason Momoa will portray Lobo, an alien mercenary and bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia. However, after his sensational debut in Superman, perhaps the most significant addition to the cast is Kara’s beloved dog Krypto, who will be getting into all sorts of mischief.

RELEASE
Recently, Gunn revealed that Milly Alocock’s Supergirl will be a “total mess” in her solo outing. He explained that “She’s had a completely different background from Superman. A much more difficult background,” and this will be a defining factor in her edgy take on the character. While I found her drunken introduction tonally jarring, I am intrigued to see this new take on the character unfold. Gunn appears to be setting his stall out early, giving these characters their demons to overcome before they emerge as the true heroes we know and love, and that is an enticing prospect.
James Gunn recently suggested that the DC Universe is heading towards a significant cinematic event, though he did not confirm a relaunch of the Justice League. He emphasized that this event will be unexpected and different from what fans might anticipate. So at this point, the sky is the limit for DC, and given the box office receipts this past weekend, it seems the DCU is in very safe hands.
